We get a trophy...in 2007 the "Official BIG EAST Champions" were UConn & WVU...both got trophies.

The same thing did happen in the Big Ten as late as last year. The Ohio State University, Wisconsin & Michigan State were the Big Ten Champions...Wisconsin got the BCS Bid but all 3 got trophies.

I know, and it's just as silly as when the Big10 does it. Call me stupid, but "champion" is an exclusive term, by definition there can only be one champion. If there's more than one, there is no champion, just co-champions.

It is what it is though...get the trophy, 1st place bowl money & go into the record books as the 2011 BIG EAST Football Champions. It is up to WVU, Pitt, Rutgers & Cincinnati if they want the same title & priveledge.

The B1G use to do it and I think the Big XII is doing the samw now. So please no need to downgrade the accomphishment of the 2nd youngest team in FBS Football.

My 'downgrading' has nothing to do with the age of the FBS team in question. I'd say the same thing if it was USC or Ohio State.

Fact is, it's not as much an accomplishment to be a co-champ as it is to be an outright champ, and if pointing that out is 'downgrading', so be it ...

No...the fact is for a team that was pick by most 7th or 8th in the BIG EAST...a team that starts 9 Freshman & plays 19 Freshman has the best record in a BCS AQ league is amaxing.

This team did things that other more noted Louisville teams failed to do and they did it on the road. Fact is, no other school will have a better conference record and they are reckonized as BIG EAST Champs. Now if UC, WVU, Pitt, Rutgers or Syracuse can do the same more power to them.

Champions/Co-Champions it doesn't matter...we are in 1st places and Champions...nuff said.

I'm just as happy as Maize with how one of the youngest teams in FBS has played over the last 6 weeks but I can't disagree here.

An outright title is more impressive than sharing it. Going back to 2005 under the current 8 team setup, anyone going 6-1 or better has won an outright title (WVU, UofL, and UC x 2). In 2007, 2010, and 2011 a 5-2 finish meant you were sharing a title.

RE: Big East Champions
I don't denigrate the Cards' accomplishments this year. It's just that nobody remembers who was champ except for the team that goes to the BCS bowl.

But Strong's turnaround of this team of freshman is a major accomplishment. And I don't care what the circumstances are. If by some miracle the Cards go to a BCS bowl, has it ever happened that a coach in only his 2nd year as a head coach anywhere has done that?

RE: Big East Champions
yes, Brian Kelly at Cincinnati, and his conference championship was outright, not a co-championship.

To me they are champions either way. The difference is that if you are the only one you can claim to be outright champions which is itself a big accomplishment that has never received the attention it should in races.

Of course outright champs is better than co-champs...but that doesn't mean being co-champs isn't a heckuv an accomplishment. 2 gold bars are better than one but if I'm given just one gold bar I'm pretty stoked about it and I bet you would be too.
