I think what we might see happen is after the exit fee is raised, 'Cuse and Pitt are rushed out of the league so the money gets split less ways. Then those 6 schools are invited to get to 12.

"Marinatto, who for the fourth straight day did not return several calls and text messages from The Post, already had reached an agreement in principle with Navy, which brought Air Force and Boise State into the picture. Navy lost 21-20 yesterday at Rutgers, another statement the Middies can compete in the Big East."

If Navy is committed it pretty much means Air Force will be as well.

i read that they agreed too double the exit fee to 10mil if those other teams come in, when they vote monday marrianatto has proof for the other 6 that those teams are coming in. the new members want the exit fees doubled so it shows them the other six are commited.

Shows how far we've fallen when adding UCF and teams from Colorado and Idaho are considered "great news."

Awful.

Still, its good to hear that this is going to be resolved soon enough.

Pitt and SU will have to wait a couple of years, as anyone we invite will have to wait as well. We're not going to let them out early and play with 6 teams for 2 years.

Louisville will not pledge to stay or sign the increased exit fees until the Big 12 says no to us. I expect the same is true for UC and West Virginia. 05-stirthepot

UL doesn't have to sign the increased exit fee. Only takes a 75% vote of al lBE schools.

u got a link? the globe said that monday the six are meeting to agree to the doubling of the exit fees, once that is done the new schools would see that the league has some stability and then the new schools including boise join us, thats the plan on meeting monday dude.

everything else is a pipe dream, wv, louville, cinci to big 12, uconn, rutger to acc..........

I disagree. This is good news. Would you rather be left without a conference home? USF will be in the eastern division so all they teams we will play on a regular basis will be in the east. 1 or 2 trips west a year. Big Deal.

If the BE goes to 12 for next season - or has 2 or 3 suitable replacements that can come into the league for next season, they will not want Pitt and SU hanging around. The schools will have the say, not Marinatto.

The thing is MWC and CUSA schools probably have some bylaws as well. I think 2013 will be the year the new Big East will take shape on the field w/ Pitt and Cuse playing in the ACC. I highly doubt we'll see current MWC and CUSA schools playing BE football next season.

why not tcu is playing in the big 12 next year

Well that's because TCU never really played a down of Big East football. Big difference between the TCU and Pitt/Cuse situation.

RE: Great news from the NY Post.............
(10-16-2011 08:48 PM)BullsBEAST Wrote:  Shows how far we've fallen when adding UCF

I don't mean to upset any USF fans, but I don't really see much difference between USF and UCF.

Hoops

UCF has made the tournament 4 times as a D-I school and has never passed the first round. USF has made the tournament 2 times and has never passed the first round. UCF's arena is brand new and seats 9.5K. USF's arena was built in the 1970s (undergoing major renovations) and seats 10.5K

Advantage: No difference. Both are atrocious.

Football

UCF plays in a 45K on campus stadium. USF plays in a 66K off campus stadium that is leased from the Buccaneers. UCF is 192–179–1 (.517) all-time, 1-3 in bowls, has won its conference twice, has never played in a BCS bowl, and has finished the season ranked once. USF is 103–62–0 (.624) all-time, 4-2 in bowls, has never won any conference titles, has never played in a BCS bowl, and has finished the season ranked once. USF owns the record against UCF 4-0.

Advantage: Edge to USF. USF has a better all-time record, better post season record, and owns the all-time record against UCF. However, neither team has really done anything noteworthy (i.e. played in a BCS bowl, finished ranked in the top 10, won a top level league, etc) and USF has an AQ advantage over UCF.

Market

Orlando is the #19 market with 2.1 million. Tampa is the #13 market with 2.5 million.

Advantage: Push. Tampa is larger but not by a significant amount. I'd say they are even in this regard.

Budget

USF reported $39,088,660 in expenditures for FY 09-10. UCF reported $35,628,562 in expenditures for FY 09-10. USF spent ~$3.5 million more than UCF in FY 09-10, though when one considers that the Big East distributes about $4 million more to its members than C-USA does, you'll see that the budget are practically identical.

Advantage: Push. They are both spending about the same when you account for league income disparity.

Merchandise sales

Both schools are licensed by the CLC so we can compared their relative sales numbers. UCF ranked 60th in Q2 of 2010-2011 whereas USF ranked 55th.

Advantage: Push. USF ranked higher, but only by 5 spots.

Now I didn't go into Olympic sports performance because I didn't want to invest the times, but I think from an objective standpoint, USF and UCF are extremely similar in terms of athletic success and what they offer. Personally I think USF has been a good member of the conference and I don't see why UCF would be a serious downgrade considering they are essentially a carbon copy of USF.

The overlap year could be awkward. It would also be funny if the exiting schools struggle against the newbies.

Plus TCU turned in notice they were leaving the MWC last year. Whatever wait they had for leaving the MWC wasn't contingent on which conference they were moving to.
