I just went and looked it up on Google, and it was Fritz von Erich, master of the Iron Claw.

Rath - George the Animal was George Steele.

When I first started watching (on TBS) :
Bobby "the Brain" Heenan
Sgt. Slaughter
Jerry Lawler (best match ever vs. Andy Kaufman)

Later:
Andre the Giant (my favorite)
Nature boy Rick Flair
Roddy Piper
Randy Savage
Flyin Brian Pilman

The Sheik had his "Sleeper Hold". Predated Spock's Vulcan grip that would put you to sleep.

RE: who was your favorite wrestler growing up?
Wow, barely a mention of the Nature Boy Ric Flair?

No one, and I mean NO ONE, was even in the same league as him when it came to mic skills. That guy could flat out bring it when he had the microphone in his hand.

I never cared much for the in-ring activity. The interviews were what was fun. And Ric Flair was THE MAN, the best ever, when it came to that.

His quotes are famous the world over. "To be the man...", "You gotta walk that aisle", "Space Mountain", "You better learn to love it" etc...

I can't begin to remember how many times I have been places not related to wrestling at all, and someone will go "Whooooh!".

I can agree with everything you said... definitely would be 3rd if not 2nd. I guess I'm just a Hulkamaniac for life. :)

I also fully agree about the interviews being the fun part of wrestling... I don't really care about any actual matches.

RE: who was your favorite wrestler growing up?
In the 60's I thought there used to be a local wrestling show in Cincinnati. There was one guy who had a unibrow but I cannot remember his name. He was a scary looking dude and never said anything. But for some reason he stands out.

Ray Mysterio on WCW before he got all juiced up and weird.

Goldberg.

All time favorite: Scott Hall of the NWO. That guy's hair was timeless.

Ric Flair and The Macho Man back in the day growing up.

Also big fan of Mick Foley since he did crazy stuff (Like being thrown throw the top of the Hell in the Cell and falling like 25 feet). Just took crazy bumps.

Leapin Lanny is the younger (and less talented) brother of the Macho Man.

And wasn't the Macho Man a minor league baseball prospect for the hometown Reds back in the day?
