As core fans, we don't need the Trib or Sun-Times, we have HuskieWire from the Chronicle, and get a lot of information direct from NIU.

What is problematic in terms of reaching the general population is the frequency NIU stories find their way to the front pages of the local paper's websites and ESPN Chicago.

And then there's the long run. The traditional local outlets for sports info are in deep decline. How does NIU get its name and stories out in a world where local news coverage stops mattering?

You're right. No one reads newspapers anymore. Gee, I wonder what I'm going to do while sitting on the toilet? It's just too hard to read my phone in there.

Let's just keep winning and see what happens with NIU coverage. Keep in mind that our game was the last of all four to get done, so some of the decisions on space, page, etc., involved the reality of deadlines. For everyone saying how much they hate the Chicago papers, those publications still reach a larger and more broad audience which is where we can gain more fans from. Talk to someone who knows the reporters and they'll tell that Lindsey Wilhite's passion is for the Illini and the Big Ten which is why he only comes to DeKalb when it suits him.

Been there, done that. It will not matter. We were 11-3 last year. What were the records of ND, UI, and NU?

But the Herald will have more stories about NIU during the week than either Chicago paper.
So far this week (Monday-Fri), zero stories on NIU football in the Daily Herald. Mon-Wed they had a small article on Northwestern, Illinois, and ND (front page of sports). Maybe I was wrong about the herald having better coverage of NIU. They do have local high school (Elgin) articles which I like.

Wow. Pretty weak. I now only get the Herald on Sunday so I don't know what the coverage is like anymore - though even in the Herald I think TSISB gets the most coverage, followed by U of I and NU.

And the Trib's Big IG roundup gets more coverage than NIU.

The best impact that we can have is to get ourselves, our friends and our families to Soldier Field and then to start selling out home games at Huskie Stadium. If our students and alumni do not support our program the Chicago media will not cover it and you cannot blame them. The best way to begin a "virtuous cycle" is to show the world that NIU students and alums support our program in big numbers.

That's certainly part of it.

+1

No excuse for not selling out at least our Saturday home games. When games are televised, that has a huge impact seeing a full Huskie Stadium. Also, our season ticket base is still <4000. We need to increase that substantially.
