More on the WAC
A few more tidbits on the WAC from Wilner's blog:
http://blogs.mercurynews.com/collegespor...to-follow/
Here's his speculation on what might ultimately happen. If this does happen, it won't do anything to quiet the snickering about the WAC.
Quote:Lamar and Sam Houston are both good bets for future membership, in part because they would provide the WAC with geographic balance that the current members crave.
It’s not difficult to envision them joining the WAC to make a 9-team football league and Utah Valley or CSUB joining to make a 12-team basketball league … and the league splitting into divisions for hoops:
East: Lamar, Sam Houston, LaTech, UTSA, Texas State and New Mexico State.
West: San Jose State, Utah State, Idaho, Seattle, Denver and UVU/CSUB.

RE: More on the WAC
Wow...with that lineup the separation between the WAC and the FCS Big Sky is minimal. The WAC really needs the Montana schools and North TX to maintain any credibility. If I were the MWC, I would invite UT St/San Jose St, put the WAC out for good and be the only non-AQ conference in the West.
I cannot understand why La Tech is sticking around...

RE: More on the WAC
San Jose State offers nothing to the MWC and they offer little to the WAC
it's one school that should either drop down to FCS or just drop football

RE: More on the WAC
The MWC is a non-factor out West now that the PAC-12 rules the roost and the MWC's best has been cherry picked away. Their TV deal is brutal and is literally hemorrhaging money. Destroy the WAC does more to hurt the MWC then help it.

LA Tech doesn't have a real option, they're chomping at the bit to get into CUSA.

You are being too harsh man. SJSU sits on top of prime recruiting area. They can be successful if they just invest a little into football.

The saying on the WAC board is SJSU and Idaho are "hobo cheap" that's why they'll never be a solid athletic programs

I can see hobo cheap; SJSU has some decent hard-core fans on their Scout site; I think they're delusional because some of the are thinking they're going to get that call from the MWC, which will only happen if they sink some bucks into their facilities
the fans want it but I don't know what the deal is with the administration; they could probably raise a good chunk of change simply because of where they're located

Everyone in their area is a Cal or Stanford fan. UC Davis almost gets the same amount of coverage as SJSU in the area(almost none)

RE: More on the WAC
The WAC is in a very difficult situation, but not hopeless. They have 7 football schools and need only one more.
I would add s school like Georgia State or James Madison as a football school only school (knowing that school would leave as soon as the opportunity presented itelf) and then encourage/push a far western school to move up to IA, like Cal Poly San Luis Obispo which is sort of a little TAMU.

CUSA has no opening, and from a lot of sources even if they did, Tech would not be the first one they would look too.
They have snubbed and spat on the Sun Belt for ever since they left and there is a lot of bad blood around. They recently scheduled a 1 for 1 deal with the Cajun's that has thier Fan base in an uproar. The WAC is no better then the Sun Belt competition wise after 2012, and LA Tech will have signifcant travel expenses to offset with the loss of the Boise State revenue.
I sort of hope that Wright Waters is working on pulling NMSU and LATech into the fold and createing East/West divisions.
Sun Belt East
FAU, FIU, MTSU, WKU, Troy, USA
Sun Belt West
Cajuns, ULM, LA Tech, ASU, UNT, NMSU

The MWC isn't all that great, either. CUSA will most likely be the best non-BCS conference in the land!

Their pocketbooks need more non-fb members so they can play in divisions. Louisiana to Seattle aint cheap.

MONEY, and the fact that there is really no where else viable to go till BE makes a move.

Boise State>CUSA
One team doesn't make a conference. I understand that Boise St. is better in football than all other teams in C-USA...but does than mean that Auburn > PAC-10 or Ohio St. > ACC and Big East ?

I would do football only on Missouri State's end in the WAC at least right now. No way would I do all-sports but a football only membership would be half way tempeting.

I pride myself on not only knowing every football team but at least knowing something about their past. I couldn't believe my eyes when I read your post. I have never heard of Missouri St. Is that the same as SW Missouri St.? Didn't they change their name a few years ago? If not, I am crushed.

Yep we changed our name from Southwest Missouri State to Missouri State in 2005.
