RE: Carlton Guyton
I think they handled it right. The stolen car charge was pretty quickly not that big a deal when the whole story came out. He wasn't right but he obviously had no intention of stealing the car. However when sexual assault is being alleged it's a different story. Even if Kent, the police and others in the know knew it wasn't going to stick (and I am not saying they did because I don't know) having Guyton play under those conditions would have been brutal (especially on the road). They had to let the legal system take it's course. As some one mentioned he will have a tough enough time on the road (and probably even at home with the people who love to hate athletes).

I'm wondering: do people hear feel Kent handled this correctly? Based on the seriousness of the accusation of sexual assault, I believe that Kent did the right thing, but I wonder how others feel.

Also, now that this is over, did I ever tell the story about the time I stole a car with my father-in-law? We borrowed a car to take his father back to the nursing home (an uncle, we were otherwise blocked in) after a holiday party. Well, we were more concerned with getting the grandfather back in safely and after we were done, we came out and got into the car and left. The only thing was that the key was difficult to turn in the ignition. Well, like 2 hours later when the uncle went to leave the party, he asked where his car was. We had taken the wrong car. My father-in-law and uncle immediately began to drive the car back to the nursing home and about half-way there, they realized they were driving in a car which could have reported as stolen. And, sure enough, when they got there, the police were also there. That said, no harm, no foul and the police just laughed the whole thing off along with the victim.

My parents are fond of pointing out that I never stole cars before I got involved with my wife's family.

Wait a minute !!! Last time I was at a Kent game my wallet disappeared... Bopol where were you on the night of Dec 21st between 700-930 05-mafia

Now with the jokes out of the way. I say they did the right thing if Kent would have let him play and things went bad for Guyton any wins might have been forfeited. Depending on how the NCAA decided on things if at all.

RE: Carlton Guyton
I am officially not depressed anymore.

Part of CG's problem was timing, having it all go down with the holidays in the middle just delayed the thing from playing out.

Now as we move forward, while it is a setback that may cost us in the short run, the team is stronger for having to adapt to adjusted roles in Guyton's absence. That is a plus. We are a better team now than we were when his absence was most sorely felt. Adding him to the mix is a positive, given that it will take some time for him to re-acclimate himself and get back into the team flow.
The West division games should see us back in better form, and we should be ready to roll once we get to the second round of East games and beyond.

Let me check.

Yep, this isn't my wallet. List the contents and if you are reasonably close, I'll send it back to you. I only need serial numbers on all bills larger than 5s.

RE: Carlton Guyton
In the last game, I was more pleased with the quickness of the passes, and less one on one play. (still too much for my taste) Guyton is a player that demands the ball and he tends to keep it, because in part, of his ability to go one on one. The bad thing is, that when one player does this, the others tend to not cut as hard, and even do more spectating. (ex: Fisher, 2 years ago) I hope that Guyton can fit with the newer faster pace and not bog down the team motion. Still, very glad to have him back, because we can be better with him.

Here's hoping the CG will put this all behind him, and be the player that everybody knows he can be. Should be great to put him back into the rotation. LET'S GO FLASHES!!04-rock04-rock

Carlton Guyton should be happy Joel Neilsen is the AD and not me. Today, I am happy Joel Neilsen is the AD and not me. ( Well, most days I’m happy not to be the AD). I was so PO’d about the reports of drinking during the season, underage drinking and car theft that I was willing to say adios to CG weeks ago. Fortunately, JN is was clear that he was going to suspend CG in light of very serious charges but let the facts and process play out before he made any permanent decisions. ([/quote]He told me that directly.) Obviously, he made the right call.

That said, welcome back, Mr. Guyton. It ought to be clear that we need you.

I wonder if the Brimfield Police and Portage County prosecutor will turn any attention to his accuser for false statements to law enforcement. At any rate, pretty sure she’s had her last date with Carlton Guyton.

And, no comment on bopol’s wife family.05-nono05-nono

If it has a piece of paper that reads "I prepared explosive runes today" don't read it and it is mine.

Great news, I'm very glad that everything worked out well for the young man. This could have really ruined his life.

I just wanted to mention just how classless some Akron fans are. I went over to zipnation today to see the thoughts of those who tore Guyton and the Kent athletic department apart for this whole situation. There were only two new posts, the first said, "Update; Case Dismissed 1/14/11". The second said, "I hope you're joking, but wasn't he in court today? Couldn't find anything on it."

I just can not understand the mentality of the second poster. He hopes that the case was not dismissed? I'm guessing he means he hates to see Kent's team improve by getting a player back. While I'm all for rivalries this is a kids future you're talking about so to "hope" for the worst because it gives your team a better chance to win is horrible. Or maybe he means he honestly believes that Guyton is guilty. If so, the justice system sorted things out and found Guyton to be innocent, so get over it.

Don't go wading through the sewer and not expect to get dirty. I guess some things never change. I stopped reading that board years ago. The ratio of intelligent fans to low-lives is way too out of proportion. I know some really good Akron fans and one who used to post there stopped out of embarrassment and disgust a couple of years ago.

For 4 years Kent gave Chris every chance in the world. Because of this, he was able to graduate in 4 years. I like to think JC and Kennedy made the world a better place with that kid. Heck, I sure didn't graduate in 4 years! I wonder how many people that lebel guys like Chris or Guyton have a rap sheet themselves?

Great example of the worst of the worst Akron fans. No class and riddled with a sense of inferiority.

I've never really read those boards until this situation. I definitely see your friends point.

A zit is a zit is a zit and will always be a zit. Now you know just one of the reasons to dislike them. They should stay off our boards, and we should stay off theirs. We would not want the disease.

It even worse. Since they want the charges to be upheld, they are essentially saying (even unwittingly) that they want there to be a chance that he did horrible things to this woman, which are more horrible than her lying. Getting an advantage is not worth hoping there is something in these type of charges.
