Crowd for Ole Miss
Can we get a big crowd for Ole Miss? How can we not get a full house for a SEC team coming to the Rock? Unfortunately, I am quite pessimistic at this point. We never draw in the afternoon. We never draw during Christmas. All anyone is talking about is the Sugar Bowl. We may get a game day article but that will probably be too late. Ironically, the Chickenhawgs being so bad hurts us- in the past their fans would be excited about the opportunity to see one of their main rivals in the SEC West. Now most don't seem to care.

This is our last home game for 4 weeks. We need to promote the heck out of it. I am out of ideas, how to do it, but this game should really sell itself. A big crowd and a win might generate some excitement for the conference games that start after New Years.

It wouldn't matter if it were April, all they would be talking about in Arkansas is Fayetteville football. Just the way it is.

Not sure who "they" is. But going to the Sugar Bowl is a BIG deal. Even the haters should see that.

Sure. Couldn't expect anything otherwise right now. But it won't change much later on. Arkansas is a football-only state, and Fayetteville is the only game in town. Same is true at the high school level in most locations (not all).

RE: Crowd for Ole Miss
I would expect Ole Miss would be one of the bigger attendances at a non-con game this year, if not the biggest. Of course, given that we are averaging a whopping "reported" 2471 so far this year, that won't take a great deal.

I think it will probably be our largest crowd of the year, but if it's anywhere a sellout, I'd be pleasantly surprised.04-cheers

I can't believe anyone who is a Trojan fan, actually thinking that we might actually have a sellout. We haven't even been close. We didn't even have a fullhouse for the first game at the Jack. A sellout? I seem to remember that it was advertised as a sellout, but didn't Mr. Stephens buy it out? Even then it wasn't full.

I said I'd be surprised....pleasantly. I'm certainly not expecting it. Especially on a Saturday afternoon. Here's a better question. Assuming we keep winning and start winning in conference, is there a chance we could have a sellout before the season ends?04-cheers

Believe it or not, right now Sagarin gives us the edge over Miss fractionally with the home court advantage factored in.

We didn't come close two years ago with winning 23 games, and having a pretty good team. What makes you think we could this year?

Although I bet we will have one of the better home crowds of the season Saturday, I agree with LRTrojan that there is no rational reason to believe that we will have a sellout. Enthusiasm for Trojan basketball has really been on a steady decline over the last several years. And, as MJS points out, the Chickenhawgs themselves are having trouble drawing, which means the curiosity in an SEC basketball team won't be as high as it once was. Additionally, as Michaelspappy correctly states, pretty much the entire state is focused on football, not basketball, so we will have less of the non UALR committed fans show up than in years past. Just the facts.

RE: Crowd for Ole Miss
BTH has posted a special promotion for the Ole Miss game, but even though that may help some, I will surprised if it is an announced crowd of over 3500.

Reported attendance through four home games is the worst since 2000-2001.

...and therefore it is time for a change. Either Shields give us something better then a division title real soon or he is done.

Exactly what I've been saying. If we're not going to make a coaching change, the way I know to get attendance up is start having strippers at halftime.

RE: Crowd for Ole Miss
It seems like anytime we have a good crowd and want to play well (to try to get fans to come back) we do not have a good effort to show to the crowd. The same thing when we have a game on TV.

Let's hope that doesn't happen this time.04-rock
