UCF finishes the season ranked in BCS Top 25!
Ranked 25th
Exciting year for the knights... I would have to think this helps UCF's Big East resume. We'll see in a few months.

You get points for where you finish the season in the BCS. Teams 19-25 get 1 point. The big issue now is what conference gets the points -- the new one or the old one. In the past, it's been the new one. With TCU I heard they might give the points to both conferences, effectively making it a wash. If that ends up being the case, our single point would be a pretty valuable thing.
Quote:Teams finishing 1-6: 4 points for each team
Teams finishing 7-12: 3 points for each team
Teams finishing 13-18: 2 points for each team
Teams finishing 19-25: 1 point for each team
The point totals will be adjusted to account for the size of the conference, as follows:
Conference membership Adjustment
12 or more members: no adjustment
10 or 11 points: points increased by 12.5 percent
9 or fewer members: points increased by 25 percent
BCS reveals complex formula for conferences to become automatic qualifiers

Aren't we ALL UCF fans now?
But seriously, they have every right to be pretty happy. Good for them.
Hope to see them invited too.

Is the "season" just for regular season? I thought the final rankings are made AFTER the bowl games and are what count towards BCS rankings.

Nope. This is it.

Correct. The "Final" BCS rankings are calculated before the bowls.

RE: UCF finishes the season ranked in BCS Top 25!
The final BCS rankings was tonight. The BCS is for the regular season so the current rankings are the final rankings. The AP and the USA Today rankings come out after the final bowl game. Interesting, if the Big East invites UCF we would end the season with 3 teams in the final BCS Top 25.

Sweet. Congrats UCF ... now beat the dogs at the Liberty (since none of the rest of us seem capable of winning that thing). Guess it makes sense that they are final after regular season considering they are used for BCS bowl "seeding".

Well, don't misunderstand me . It's clearly not a game changer by any means. Just pointing out that if they give TCU's BCS points to both conferences, the addition from a BCS standpoint is essentially a wash.
If `nova ends up declining and the BE has to look elsewhere, I'd suspect grabbing points from conferences other than the MWC would be helpful. Some of the big 12 teams probably have some, but AFAIK, we're now the only C-USA team with any.

The BCS poll is only used for determining who will PLAY for the national championship. So, they do not release a post bowl games BCS poll. This is the final poll for the season. All of the other polls will release post bowl game polls.

This is also a good time to point out that UCF is the only remaining expansion candidate school (outside of Boise, BYU and...Ball State...ha!) to have BCS point(s).

RE: UCF finishes the season ranked in BCS Top 25!
Congrats to UCF. I don't think a quarter point is of huge concern to the Big East to be honest, but it sure can't hurt anything.
Of interest, ESPN said UCF is the 83rd team to finish in the BCS top 25 in the BCS era. That was higher than I would have guessed, but doing the math, that leaves 37 teams that haven't finished in the Top 25. I'm sure you get a heavy dose of non-BCS from those 37, but I wonder who from BCS leagues makes that list. And yes, I do know who's among the 37 from the Big East.

Well...everyone from the SBC (9). Everyone from MAC minus Ball State and Bowling Green (11). Everyone from C-USA minus UCF (11). Everyone from the MWC minus TCU, Utah, BYU (6). Everyone from the WAC minus Boise, Nevada and Hawaii (6). That's 44...Hmm....
Well...looking a little further into it, going back to when they only used Top 15 in the final poll...Marshall was #12 in 1999. That still doesn't help much, though...

Yeah, on the ESPN bowl special Reece Davis said 83 teams, but building off my initial reaction and your breakdown, it seems like 83 can't be correct.
