Rutgers fans were really good sports last year. A few of them even came out with us in Armory Square that night. Of course, they insisted on sporting their RU regalia, but to each his own...

Just because I can't stomach the thought of losing to Syracuse in anything doesn't mean we all can't be friends. Cue up War on the playlist!

And over the last year you guys have lost just about every sport to Syracuse...and I mean every sport men's and women's

Yup I think the only thing we won in off the top of my head was Women's Soccer. I actually follow that sport very closely since my stepcousin was a starter last year after missing her first two seasons with leg injuries (one was a torn ACL.) This year she has been elected one of the team captains.

Some guy on our Rivals board who have zero faith in has been talking about Ben Howland being interested in the job. If that were true they better jump on it in half of a NY Minute. However, I have no faith in this rumor.

Looks like Jim O'Brien and Fran Fraschilla are the top targets. Interestingly, Rutgers is going for big name guys that are out of coaching too.

I don't think the Rutgers job is a step up from Rhode Island or Temple, so I don't see Baron or Dunphy packing up the U-Haul. Dave Leitao is also on the radar, but I thought he was going to be on Lavin's staff.

And the Eddie Jordan speculation has been heating back up over the weekend. Its about time the school made a big time hire like one of the big boys we aspire to be.

Yahoo Sports - Rutgers eyes 76ers' Jordan

Comcast SportsNet Philly - Jordan not long for unemployment?

Delaware County Daily Times - Back to school for Sixers' Jordan

The Star-Ledger is reporting that Hill and Pernetti and their respective parties met today but nothing else has happened. I'm guessing Hill is holding out for more money but at this point realizes he's gone no matter what. I'm figuring they'll end up having to come up to a cool million to get rid of him without any legal proceedings.

One huge advantage of doing that (hiring an unemployed coach who might be in broadcasting or other businesses) is that one doesn't need to worry about any huge buyout (i.e. that could run $1 Million - $2 Million in some cases).

Then again, those out of coaching were out of coaching for a reason...so its a double edge sword.

Bad news for RU is that they waiting too long to dismiss their Coach as many top candidates have already landed new jobs over the last few weeks.

The sage continues, and Rutgers fall further behind the 8-ball. By the time they end this soap opera, they may not have a team left for anyone to coach...
ESPN Wrote:Source: Hill gets letter from AD

The torturous divorce between Rutgers and men's basketball coach Fred Hill is getting messier, with neither party willing to back down.

On Monday, Hill received a letter from athletic director Tim Pernetti, a source confirmed to ESPN.com, but the coach has not been fired, nor has he agreed to resign.

Instead, Hill has been at work the past two days, overseeing the team's weightlifting program and making calls in his office, the source said.

Pernetti released a statement on Monday, saying only that the situation with Hill was "an internal personnel matter. We have no further comment at this time.''

But according to a report in Tuesday's Star-Ledger of Newark, N.J., Pernetti's letter to Hill alleged numerous breaches of contract beyond the much-publicized confrontation with University of Pittsburgh baseball coaches earlier this month.

Citing a source familiar with the situation, the newspaper reports that the letter also includes allegations of academic issues within the basketball program and reports that at least one basketball player failed a drug test.

The Star-Ledger reported that Pernetti was required to give Hill written notification of any alleged contract violations and that Hill would have 30 days to address those allegations.

But in the interim, the athletic director also could suspend Hill with pay, if it is in the best interest of the university.

Should Rutgers choose to fire Hill for cause, the coach would have 14 days to file an appeal to the university president.

Money is at the center of the issue. If he is fired, Hill could be owed upwards of $1.8 million. On Thursday, the university reportedly offered the coach a $600,000 buyout, which he declined.

Hill is not expected to be retained in any case. But if Hill files an appeal or chooses to sue, the university might not resolve the issue until at least May.

While the two sides haggle, hanging in the balance is a basketball program trying to dig its way out of the Big East basement.

The Scarlet Knights' New York-area Big East rivals already have changed coaches and started rebuilding. Kevin Willard is hard at work up the Garden State Parkway at Seton Hall, and Steve Lavin is deep in plans across the Hudson at St. John's.

The signing period for incoming recruits begins Wednesday, but Rutgers instead has to contend with two players who want out instead of in.

Star player Mike Rosario wants to transfer and top recruit Gil Biruta wants out of his letter of intent, but sources have told ESPN.com that no players will be released from their scholarships until a new coach is hired.

And no one knows when that might happen.

Star Ledger is reporting $850k up from $600k, kinda surprised its that low, I figured somewhere around $1.2 million myself.

Whatever the case, at least this is finished for Rutgers. Now they can start recruiting for next year. I figure this year is shot - and Rosario is heading to Florida. I bet DePaul doesn't finish last next season. Rutgers has earned that spot for themselves with this soap opera drama taking up the entire recruiting season...
