I agree 97, is there any school in the Big South that could jump to the Sun Belt?

generally speaking - to be in an FBS conference, one needs to have the FB! just a thought

The only question is if ETSU will be in a position to make a move like that to a lower tier FBS conference if that happens.

You think I'm against ETSU football reinstatement?

I wonder if Mullins is even aware that UNO is leaving the Sun Belt?

RE: UNO to give withdrawal notice to Sun Belt league
Well there are currently three in the Sun Belt (Soon to be two when UNO drops), but Denver and South Alabama neither play football in the FBS or the Sun Belt. South Alabama will be soon enough.
Then there's the Big East... Villanova (FCS football), St. John's, Marquette, DePaul, Providence, Georgetown, and Seton Hall. None of these schools are FBS playing schools yet play in a "BCS" conference. And on a much smaller level, Winthrop and High Point are in the Big South not playing football. I know you say it's rare and I agree with that, but it can happen.

Maybe that glorious new soccer field will get us into the Sun Belt.

If you read what I wrote above, it probably wouldn't.

The Sun Belt doesn't sponsor men's soccer.

So much for "infrastructure."

I'd also like to make this point. For all the talk about how we've heard this soccer field was going to be just the cat's meow, it still doesn't have lights.

This isn't anything small. Without lights, travel schedules are limited and there's a lot of potential to miss more class, among other things.

You'd be better off playing inside The Vault on artificial turf or renting out a high school field if you were looking to advance up. This is 2009. Little League fields have lights- why not Summers-Taylor?

What an absolute waste.

I figured as such, but the point needs to be made repeatedly to blow out of the water the "infrastructure" comments.

"Infrastructure" means having football.

The members of the board should spam him with emails letting him know, however, it probably wouldn't do any good.

I agree it is probably would do no good. If fact, he may have called them to congratulate them for leaving the Sun Belt.

Typos don't diminish the point.

For all the Memphis football bashing you do, you have to admit the Tigers could not realistically be looking at joining a better conference without the program.

Don't disagree with you, but that is irrelevant to an ETSU football question.

The day that ETSU basketball can make 2 million a year and fund ETSU football, I will be all for football. You guys are just intent on strangling the baby in the bath tub, before it has a chance to grow up.

I don't think it is irrelevant to the ETSU football discussion.

Not having football has made ETSU fall to a lesser conference. We can discuss how far the fall is/was, but it is a fall.

Now, can the athletic program grow without the sport? To date, the returns have not been promising.

That's it, strangle that baby, hold it under the water, can't let it catch it's breath.
