RE: Bowl Odds
The question is how many of those teams are 6-6 and then how many of those 6-6 teams get to play because they're locked in via a conference agreement with a particular bowl.
That should give you an idea as to the Huskies chances in black and white.
Football banquest in Sun night at 6 PM - prime time to make an announcement.

RE: Bowl Odds
I know all of us are expecting a bowl announcement on Sunday, but will NIU know on Sunday? Is that Army-Navy game on the 12th gonna make us wait until the following week?

Is it possible that bowl invites come out on Saturday, after the MAC Championship game?

If Army loses, Marshall goes in their place. The MAC will most likely fill the slot opposite Army/Marshall that was vacated by the ACC.

To recap:

Right now there are three open bowl slots: GMAC, Eagle and Humanitarian. A 4th bowl slot will most likely open (say a 75% chance) after the BCS bowls are announced.

To fill the three slots, bowls must choose a 7+ win team before choosing a 6-6 team. There are currently only three teams eligible with 7+ wins (NIU, BG, and Middle Tennessee), with a potential 4th team should Hawaii defeat Wisconsin.

In the worse case, there would be only three bowl slots and four teams with 7+ wins to choose from. In that case, we could get shut out. The most likely case is that there will be four slots available to be filled by the aforementioned 7+ win teams, opening an at-large spot for a 6-6 team, either Notre Dame, UCLA, La-Lafayette, or La-Monroe.

We should have the news late on Sunday afternoon as the at-large teams negotiate for the slots they will fill.

If Hawaii wins, does that eliminate the 6-6 teams from consideration?

Yes, I believe it does. While I want Hawaii to loss, it would be funny if they win, ND decides they will go to a game, and then ND can't go to a game because there aren't enough bowls :)

Tribune story about ND and bowls:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/col...4609.story

Quote:Notre Dame does expect a decision on bowl participation by Friday, Swarbrick said. It appears the two realistic options are the Dec. 26 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl in Detroit and the Jan. 6 GMAC Bowl in Mobile, Ala. The reason: Seven-victory MAC teams must be slotted before the six-win Irish, and two are likely to occupy Humanitarian Bowl and EagleBank Bowl spots to avoid MAC vs. MAC matchups in Detroit and Mobile. A Hawaii upset of Wisconsin this weekend would complicate matters, as the Warriors would hit the seven-victory mark.

if ND accepts a bid to the Pizza Bowl in Detroit, I would bet the ranch we get the bid. CMU to GMAC, Ohio to Toronto, Temple to DC Bowl

This is what I've been hearing as well. However, I also heard Temple doesn't want to go to D.C. I guess we will see what happens.

Ben Gross says its either CMU vs ND in the GMAC or CMU vs ND in the Pizza Bowl. According to the International Bowl Director.

RE: Bowl Odds
But ND has to officially state that they want to go to a bowl game. Plus, I think the CMU could beat ND, would the SOuth Bend alumni like that scenario????

Oh ND CMU would be a track meet. If you like offense those teams might combine for 1,400 yards and 120 points.

If Hawaii wins, and gets to 7-6, it will be moot. ND will be sitting at home.

I thought Temple wanted to go to DC?

RE: Bowl Odds
Could you imagine if Kelly left Cincy early to coach ND in their bowl game and had to play CMU? .....And lost!

RE: Bowl Odds
CMU is going to end up in Mobile and Notre Dame will be at the Pizza Bowl.

Who Notre Dame will play is what remains to be seen.
