Bowl Math
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowl_eligibility

I'd copy and paste everything, but it doesn't look near as good as it does if you look at wikipedia.

Here is the cliff notes version:
There are 68 total bowl slots.
As I type, there are 73 teams that can be bowl eligible, with 52 teams already locked in.

That leaves 21 teams still fighting to become bowl elibile.

Teams we are rooting against the rest of the season:
Duke
Louisville
Michigan
Kansas State
Baylor
Tulane
UTEP
Western Michigan
Toledo
Bowling Green
UNLV
Washington
La. Tech
Army

There are also a few games that will decide bowl eligibilty. At this point, it's going to take an act of God for us not to be bowling. If those numbers are correct, I don't know if there even will be 68 6 win teams.

RE: Bowl Math
The ACC isn't going to be able to fill all their bowl spots, so the MAC is going to get the EagleBank Bowl giving us 4 bowl tie ins now.

The only way NIU won't get a bid is if CMU, Temple, Ohio & BGSU all are chosen before the Huskies. And if there are no other bowls that need spots filled.

BG's last two games are against Akron & Toledo at home to potentially give them 7 wins.

RE: Bowl Math
Duke's not likely in at all. They have to win their last two games because one of their wins doesn't count toward eligibility. Consiering they still have to play @Da U they are likely out at this point.

If NIU drops their last two I can see that happening because Bowling Green has a marketable players (Barnes) and an explosive offense.

If NIU can beat Ohio they'll end up locked into the 3rd MAC bowl at worst. It's a huge game.

RE: Bowl Math
Biggest ones to root against IMO:

Florida State to lose to Wake forest,
UCONN in all of their games...yes you willhave to root for ND
Louisville to lose against SFU (or Rutgers if needed)
root against ASU and UCLA when they are not playing one another
root against mississippi st
and SDSU, Wyoming, UNLV to lose whenever they arent playing one another

I cant see that.....there will be enough 6 win teams out there that when the 7 win teams are all picked up (which is the current agreement) then the bowls can go after the 6 win teams that arent in tie in bowls....CUSA B12, will have a few and the MAC might have a couple...Unlike last year, there will be good 6-6 teams sitting at home.

Mostly correct, but the Big 12 has 8 tie-ins (including one BCS) and CUSA will have 6 assuming Army doesn't win out.

RE: Bowl Math
My guess is that there will be three (ACC, BEAST, MWC) open slots for 7+ win teams to fill, from which there will be likely be 2 from the MAC, and 2 from the Sun Belt. If we're a 7 win team, we'll have to beat out BG. In fact, one or both of the Sun Belt teams which do not win the conference title could win 8 games, which trump a 7 win team. Also, look for the Sun belt to fill the slot for the BEAST in the International Bowl. Let's beat Ohio, I don't need the drama.

The Wiki article is great. I didn't realize that Kansas State played 2 FCS teams, and that Duke beat a provisional FCS team. Both teams need to finish 7-5 to get a bowl bid. You would think that both of these schools would have no trouble finding an FBS opponent to schedule.

Not with Bill "King of the Cupcakes" Snyder back in town at Kansas State. I think that guy would play College of DuPage if he could get away with it.

Chances look good for our Huskies. Of course, if we lose to CMU, it looks like once again, we'll have to go snag an at-large bid ourselves because we get no help from the MAC office.
