RE: Bowl Math
That is only for at large teams....6-6 teams with primary tie ins can be selected . For at large (or for seconday tie ins) all 7-5 teams must be selected before a 6-6 team is condsdered. Notre Dame (due to big east tie ins) WILL be seelcted...a 7-5 NIU team, MIGHT get left at home IF there are ather 7-5 teams to fill the at large openings. The rule change you are referring to is this one.

I counted at least 67 schools that can be at least 7-5, including NIU. There are 34 bowl games and 68 schools.

NIU is going to a bowl game!

THE NCAA CHANGED THE RULES IN 2006. A 6-6 TEAM CANNOT GO TO A BOWL GAME OVER A 7-5 NO MATTER THE CONFERENCE TIES TO A BOWL GAME

On April 26, 2006, the NCAA announced that they were relaxing the rules for eligibility starting with the 2006 season, particularly in light of the new 12 game college football season. Now, teams with .500 records can qualify for bowl games if their conference has a contract with a bowl game. Also, teams with .500 records (i.e. 6–6) could earn bowl bids if all other FBS teams with winning records have been taken and postseason spots still remain vacant. In thirteen-game seasons (used because of conference championship games, or allowable when a team from the U.S. mainland plays at Hawaiʻi), a team must win seven games.[3]

OK, let's try this again. That is NOT true. You are wrong.

To prove your ignorance, in 2007 Nevada and UCLA went to bowl games with 6-6 records. Troy sat home with an 8-4 record.

I stand corrected. I was confused by the rules over the past few years. Thanks for the heads-up.

RE: Bowl Math
How about NIU beating CMU and then we are in a bowl for sure.

It would be nice for NIU to beat ONE team with a winning record before a bowl game.

That would be nice, but unfortunately I think that is beyond a long shot. I'd be impressed if we keep it within 2 TD's. We choked at Ohio and now we have to leave it in the hands of the bowl committees at 7-5.

NIU actually has a better chance of beating CMU, now that the division champion is no longer in question. The game means more to the Huskies than the Chips

RE: Bowl Math
There seems to be a consensus that the MAC has formal "back up" tie ins with several bowls which may not be able to get teams from leagues they are contracted with.

NOT TRUE!

There are no Formal agreements in place this year. It's a wide open competition for those spots between the MAC and other leagues for any openings.

JS with a nice write up on HuskieWire wherein he talked with a MAC rep who confirmed this information.

I could be wrong but with Ok St losing today, it doesn't look like the Kansas game is going to matter to us.

It will matter if Nebraska upsets Texas in the Big 12 championship. If that happens, Nebraska goes to the Fiesta and Texas takes another BCS bowl.

Mizzou just beat KU 41-39 in a wild one at Arrowhead. Can't believe I'm going to say this, but thank you Tigers!
