I don't know how many games we'll win, but
here's Dr. J's fearless prediction. We will finish no lower than 2nd in the West, and could win the division again. We will get to the finals of the SBC tournament, and possibly win it all. No one expects us to be very good this year, after losing so many good players, but we have a very talented group replacing them.
Replacing Shane and John won't be easy. But Alex is a more talented player than John, and will be as much or more productive through his career than John was. And I said last season, that Courtney would be a better player than Shane Edwards before his career was over. I stand by that statement. IMO, he's a better rebounder than Shane right now, and if he continues to improve his shooting and free throw shooting, he'll be a terrific player for us. Am I dreaming? Maybe. But I really feel good about this team. And it's not just me. Jeff seems to think the same way from comments he made to me the other day, so maybe the dream will come true.

You never fail to amaze me Doc. I never can tell which side of the bed you're going to get up on. I want to know what you're drinking, since I'm pretty sure you don't do drugs. Must be KoolAid.

Doesn't hurt to be an optimist. Still this seems to be a rebuilding year to me. If we win one of our first 3 DI games, I might jump on the Dr. J bandwagon.

If this is not a rebuilding year, i.e., if we are in the division hunt again, then Shields needs to be in the running for COY. But my guess is that the Denver coach will get that - and deserve it.

Nothing wrong with being an optimist, but sometimes you've got to be realistic and face what may be unpleasant facts. You're right, this should be a rebuilding year, and looking at what others have returning, it really doesn't look all that rosy for our guys. I guess the hogism in Doc is coming out. I've never seen a preseason when the pig fans didn't think their team was going to be national champs. I guess you could call it optimism.

Naah. It's "Trojanism". But hey. There are some things you can't figure out on paper. We don't know the heart of this team, or of those teams they play. That will determine our success or failure. We could lose all the early games, and still have a great season, once everything fits into place. Steve will have them emotionally ready to play. What they accomplish will depend on the team.

Seems like a better way to go than giving up after losing a game (or two).

I tend to blame that on the media. Always predicting glory before the season. I know they always seem to convince me how good the football team will be before the season starts. I was really beginning to believe Petrino was the "savior" of the program. Maybe he is. If they beat Auburn they might still have a good year. If they don't, they'll be very lucky to match last year's 2-6 record.
