C-USA has a full roster. There is a reason all of the other Sun Belt additions happened in the East. The Belt has few programs in the western part and none of the others fit what C-USA was doing.
I've never had an issue with ULL, other then their ridiculous ideas about their name. This guy is a terrible ambassador for his program. We can't even have a decent thread on a topic without this guy trolling over and hijacking it. I'm sure there are topics on the Belt board he can go respond too. My indifference towards ULL has certainly turned to dislike. Now, they are the only former conference-mate I don't pull for during the season.
ULL doesn't have any ridiculous ideas about their name. What's "ridiculous" is that anyone would object to the "Louisiana" branding but countenance "Texas", "Tennessee", "Nevada", and so on. Their names have the exact same status as ULL's "Louisiana" moniker does, and yet no one complains. I find myself asking the question a lot lately about USM, and I'll ask it about ULL: what in the hell makes ULL so different from other schools that they don't get what other schools have?
Also, why does UNT care so much more than anyone at the other UL campuses does? I take classes at a UL system campus right now, and I'll flat out tell you, the "University of Louisiana" (unqualified) is in Lafayette, and everyone knows it.
For the record, I would MUCH PREFER ULL over UNT or about a half-dozen other schools admitted to the conference by that clown Banowsky (a typical Dallas tool) and a bunch of schools that have now left and really should not have had any say.
What everyone in the state of Louisiana "knows" is that La Tech is the one and only Tier I university in the U of L system. UL-L, like it's sister university ULM, is classified as a Regional university. The identity crisis that UL-L has suffered from for over 30 years is beyond ridiculous, it is absolutely absurd. You all have made idiots of yourselves about your name for over thirty years now, yet nothing is different today than it was back in 1984. Your name is UL-Lafayette. That is what everyone knows.
I am not sure where you are getting this from, but the Carnegie Foundation list Louisiana as RU/H: Research Universities (high research activity) and they list LaTech as RU/H: Research Universities (high research activity) as well so they are both classified the same
and the highest classification is RU/VH and that is also not a "tier 1" classification since The Carnegie Foundation does not use that term and they do not rank universities nor do their classifications imply any type of academic quality or similarity
as for the US Snooze Louisiana is listed as National University RNP (rank not published)
so again they are not a regional university they are a national university without a ranking
also from the latest NSF numbers Louisiana did 65,275,000 in total research and development for 2012 and they produced 26 doctorates in 2011 and they had 8 post docs
LaTech did 26,546,000 in total research and development for 2012 and produced 28 doctorates in 2011 and had 0 post docs
other years on average Louisiana had more doctorates produced and LaTech is very sporadic in post docs, but most years it is zero
true LaTech does have a numerical ranking in the US Snooze and that "sells", but Louisiana more than holds their own in other areas
You are correct. Being nationally ranked by US News & World Report "sells" as you so eloquently put it. La Tech is ranked by US News &World Report, UL-L is not. Still, UL-L wants everyone to believe that they're the flagship of the U of L system. They are not. The truth is that the only flagship university in Louisiana is LSU. The delusional idiots in Lafayette just persist in pretending to be something that they are not. Personally, I believe this attitude is what has kept them out of consideration in conference realignment. The presidents and chancellors of other universities are not impressed with all of the self aggrandizement UL-L has tried. We could get a mule and ask everyone to call it Secretariat, but that doesn't mean it would get to run in the Kentucky Derby.
I would have my doubts that is is about being a "flagship" since the vast majority of college students have no idea what that is or what that means
I would believe the issue is more about the fact that schools with -city in the name are looked down upon for the most part just like dual directional schools and even singular directional schools are sometimes looked down upon
Texas State most likely would have had significant growth even if they had not changed their name, but their change in name, the development of more graduate and PhD programs, and the increase on freshman metrics along with growth all really took off about the time they changed their name
the only place that has too many universities and too many university systems, relative to population especially, besides Texas is Louisiana
if a school wants to change their name to try and draw in more students that should be their business without idiot politicians involved and no one thinks that Texas State is suddenly the land grant university in Texas after the name change unless they are an idiot
and in an even smaller state that is LSU crazy no one is going to suddenly think that Louisiana is "like UT or Michigan or North Carolina" relative to Michigan State, Texas A&M or NCSU and LaTech already has their distinct name so I am not sure why it really matters to them as well just like Texas Tech had their name and UH had theirs and Texas A&M and UT do not concern themselves with what Texas State wants to call themselves
ULM should be the only school that is concerned and they should simply find another name for themselves as well since Louisiana-Monroe is not too catchy either
it would be an advantage to The State of Louisiana to clear it all up so people start thinking of something besides LSU and Tulane and a bunch of other schools wherever
