For a BBQ sandwich, my most favorite comes out of my own kitchen, but when I'm out for a sandwich I go to Three Little Pigs. I get mine with cheese.

I'm not a fan of the G'Town Commisary, Interstate, or the Rendezvous at all, and I'm not real big on Jim and Nick's. Pickles dont go on BBQ.

I used to really like Gridley's but the quality of that place went WAY downhill after the old man died, and I wont eat there again after the last time when the service was atrocious.

I tend to like the single location places the best. There's one that used to be in Raleigh on Raleigh Millington just North of Yale Rd. It's changed owners a couple times but it used to have some of the best chopped pork around, IMHO. I'm not sure who the current owners are and cant remember the name it used to be. Again, I get mine with cheese because it's SO delicious.

That BBQ place in Raleigh used to be Mr. P.I.G. Now it's an A&R BBQ.

That's the one. I LOVED Mr P.I.G when I was a kid and all the way up to when it changed. I've tried A&R once, and it was pretty good, IIRC. I'll have to get by there again next time I'm down that way. Thanks for jogging my memory. I cant believe I couldnt remember.

It's not bbq'd, but try the roasted half-a-chicken at Soul Fish in Cooper-Young. OMG!

I have been to Tom's a number of times and think it is very good. They have a big menu--- a lot of different items and Combos can be made from what they offer.

I always do TakeOut-- it is a beehive of activity and parking is a major pain in the butt. Maybe if you go off-peak?

Have not had their ribs, but all of their Barbecue meats are top-tier.

good stuff - I will have to try it out.

Was wondering why it took so long in this thread for Tom's to be mentioned. I think they have the best pulled pork sammich in the city.

Their pulled pork is excellent. Their sauce sucks; way way way too sweet. Much like Corky's sauce.

RE: Ranking the best BBQ in Memphis
Went to Rendezvous about two weeks ago for the first time in 15 years. Got the large slab of ribs.

First of all, i got the sausage and cheese plate. Seriously, don't waste your time or money on it. Then they don't serve french fries, so i was VERY disappointed there. I don't like cole slaw, so the only other sides are some pickles out of a jar. I wasn't impressed.

I'm not even sure why they bother serving rolls. The ones they offered was about half of a $1 tray of plain rolls from walmart. They weren't warmed up or buttered or anything.

The large order of ribs was small. The meat didn't have much fat which is good, but imo, a little fat on ribs is what makes the rib taste so good. I'll still say their ribs were decent. Their bbq sauce is very good. Their bbq beans were awesome.

Overall, i might wait another 15 years before i get the urge to go back.

I have always been a fan of theirs. They have never served fries so that isn't a surprise. Their cole slaw is the best. You can buy it at Easy Way. The line out the door most nights tells you others seem to like it. It is a shame you didn't enjoy your dinner but everyone has various likes and dislikes. Try Ty's BBQ on 64 in Bartlett. Kind of a fast food setup but VERY good in my opinion.

Fries are good with ribs. Period. Plus, a place like that could serve something better than 50 cents worth of walmart rolls. So much for having something other than pickles to dip in that leftover bbq sauce.

A place like that should serve green beans, fries, or some other options other than few pickles out of a jar. I can't be the only one who doesn't like cole claw.

If they had done that, i would have liked it. I realize everyone's bbq is a little different yet usually really good. The ribs were still good. The flavor was awesome.

Also, they need to work on that sausage and cheese plate. It was served with the sausage nearly cold, and most places give you a couple options on sauces to dip in. A lot of them will even give options in cheese as well.

Overall, it just seemed they cheap out on some things that could make the experience very good.

I'll keep ty's in mind. I haven't been there.

Excellent advice. I have never had bad BBQ in Memphis. Just some is average, some is good and some is excellent.

I don't recall any BBQ place serving green beans, beside Leonards buffet. Leonards entire vegetable menu is unbelievable. Best vegetable offering in Memphis in my opinion. If you walk away from there hungry, you have issues.

Leonard's has one of the worst BBQ sauces ever.

The Bar-B-Q Shop on Madison has some of the best pulled pork but the sauce is way way to sweet much like Corky's sauce.

You want fries or do you want BBQ? If you want fries go to McDs, if you want ribs go to the BBQ Shop.

And the 'Vous hasn't produced quality ribs since the 90's, unfortunately.
