RE: Forde says sources tell him Gillispie is out at UK and they are going after...
^People I am die-hard TIGER fan, but seriously you think the last 4 years is all it takes to make us elite. We have some tradition, but we have 0 NCAA titles. I said it before "I don't think Cal is leaving" because I feel he is at the point now that he wants to win a NC here so that he can tell every single critic to kiss his A$$. (every Tiger fan will be ecstatic with the chance to raise that banner, it will have no disclaimer about our conference I assure you). No doubt he wants to win here. No doubt Kentucky will present extraordinary circumstances and pressure, but it is human nature and if you have any ego, as we all know Cal has, he will at least listen to KY if they call. It is simply business.

KY is still top dog in total wins and winning %, oh and they have some kind of titles, I think Cal stays, but KY is still top dog, tradition, BCS conference, most importantly $$$$$$$$$$$. Cal doesn't go because he will not play 2nd fiddle to that other guy named PITINO.

KY, NCST, FL, AL, ST. JOHN's, etc. you name it, we have been here before....if anyone ever can get through on the radio show or see Cal in person, my question is "Cal retires as HC of Memphis if...." we all know he probably is done in 10 years.

Memphis will always present him with a competitive salary and my only fear is, he wins a title here, proves he can do it, and thens leaves for a "real" team. If he leaves now and wins a title at a BCS school 2-4 years later, all critics will say he had to be in a real conference to win. He knows that and that is why he stays until he wins at least 1 NC here.

Please don't bash me, I am not bashing the Tigers or Cal just giving you my opinion on the matter. I still trust Cal and believe we WILL WIN A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP with CAL AS OUR COACH.

Donovan has already turned them down once, that's why they hired Gillispie. Isn't he already making 3 million a year at Florida? If it becomes a bidding war, Florida has a bigger treasure chest.
As much as Kentucky fans may want Slick Rick back as their coach, it would be awfully awkward for him to leave Loserville to return there.

UK hired Gillispie, and Cal didn't go then. Why would he go now? Not happening. No way. Never.

I would want ANYONE on this board or ANY TIGER FAN's head examined at least 3 times if he/she thinks Cal is leaving now or in the next 2 years. Unless he wins a NC or he becomes just THAT gracious in which he doesn't want to leave the cupboard bare for MEMPHIS!

It just ain't happening........

Yes, i did say "AIN'T" !!!!!!!!!

Here it is...

1) For what Cal has done for the University and the city of Memphis, go ahead and make him the highest paid coach in America. Case closed, borrow the money from Fed-Ex if we have too, I'm sure Fed-Ex can sell a couple of their solid gold microwaves they have in the executive lounge at their corporate headquarters to cover the tab, if not I'll chip in a dollar a week to the save Coach Cal fund.

2) As a loyal fan of this basketball team since 1975, I know how I feel about this so I know Cal feels it 100 times more....WE MUST WIN A TITLE.
I'm tired of walking around being told we are the worst choke jobs of all time, from UT fans to Kansas fans.. Playing that game over and over again in my head. How do you think he feels? Everything that could go wrong did go wrong.. It has to haunt him, I know I cant go a day without thinking about it. Some of my family members will walk out of the room if the word Kansas is even mentioned. Seriously..
Cal isn't going anywhere. The man will fall dead on the sideline from a stroke, before he leaves UM without a title. He has the best recruiting class in the history of college basketball coming in, he will dominate all next year... 40-0...UNC, DUKE, UK, UCLA, and WHITE STATION...Then he can walk away from UM with a perfect record and a banner hanging in FED-EX saying NATIONAL CHAMPIONS.

Till then those UK losers can lick Ashley Judd's armpits.

Calipari is at an elite school.

I forgot about the national titles we won. Sorry.

As long as Cal is around, we will get our national title - maybe not this year, but soon. Write that down.

Bingo. As I said we haven't won one. To be known as an elite program one of the things needed would be a title. DUH!

To be known as not being completely unintelligent, you would have to make at least one intelligent post.

I'd venture to say that there're more than a few Tiger fans who wouldn't mind licking Ashley Judd's armpits. 03-lmfao Rimshot 04-cheers

Maybe Houston or UAB could sneak in and grab Gillispie. Upgrade in either case.

No idea why Donovan would want to move from the school where he managed to win back-to-back national championships to the hellhole in Lexington, though.

If you've been a fan that long, you'll remember that Duke, Arizona, and Syracuse all went through very long stretches where they were elite, but they didn't win a title. Dean Smith went to the Final Four seven times before he won his first title.

Given the fact that Cal is showing no evidence of slowing down, the National Championship is just a matter of time. I doubt he's haunted; he's too tough minded for that.

And if we buy into the negativity that others use to label last season, then we have lost a lot of perspective: last season solidified this program's place in college basketball.

We have had an incredible run but we need the final hammer in our arsenal to beat the sh.. out of our detractors.

I agree. However, can you explain to me who in the hell is that train wreck of a photo under your username and why our eyes bleed upon looking at that ?

Sorry. Just one of my favorite mugshots of one of the beautiful ladies picked up for selling a fun time in the city of Memphis. lol
All of the wins don't mean much if we can't win it all. It just adds to the rant about our weak conference if we can run through it like a hot knife through butter but can't win it all. Another final four or title appearance would be nice but we need to nail down a title soon.

The arrogance of Memphis fans to think that we are suddenly "elite" and on the long term level of KY, UNC, UCLA, et al has been baffling to say the least.

Excellent post.

One name that I am always surprised doesn't come up in the Coaching Carousel is Jay Wright. If I ran an elite program I would back the truck up to Wright's house. The guy runs a system that athletic guys want to play in, is a photogenic guy who sells his program very well, and has proven he can recruit with the best of coaches. And he has done very well for himself come March.

I imagine he makes good money at Nova but I doubt it's CAL/ Donovan type money. An AD should have zero worries about handing Wright the keys to an elite level program.

Oh, and CAL/ Donovan aren't going to go coach at a school whose fans throw bottles at you after a loss during your 2nd year at the school. Plus, CAL and the SEC would mix like oil and water.
