RE: Bowl attendance
louisville has picked up the slack for va tech, in terms of traveling. Actually the BE now has more teams than before that can at least sell out their allotment.

That is a good point. Miami, SU, BC and Pitt and Temple, were not known for traveling well to bowls and Rutgers was an unknon since at the time they had not gone to a bowl in recent years. The only teams that did travel well was WV and VT.

Now the BE has Louisville, WV, and Rutgers that seem to travel really well, while the jury is still out on USF, Cincy and Uconn, who seems like they will travel well.

Of course, Syracuse fans are ignoring the fact that neither BC or Penn State want anything to do with them... 01-wingedeagle
Your blind hatred for SU and its fans doesnt allow you to see the facts clearly. The fact that SU started a home and home series with Penn St this season, and a multi year home and home with BC proves that you know very little about what you are talking about. And it was BC who approached SU. 01-wingedeagle
Who said I hated Syracuse? I hate what they've become...

Another thing, if I was scheduling for Penn State or Boston College, Syracuse would look pretty inviting right now. It's an easy win against a BCS conference school...

Judge the newbies after a few years of going to bowls with 7-5 teams--and to bowls you have to fly to.

I was at the Hall Of Fame Bowl in Tampa on Jan 1, 1989. I was one of at least 15k SU fans there.

I'm not making excuses before UC even goes to a BCS game (they still have to win a couple more games to get there), but..

Our economy is having serious issues right now. A lot of people are temporarily out of jobs. Traveling to Florida from Cincinnati will not be easy and not cheap (unless you drive).

Which brings me to a question - to UofL fans. You were the most recent Big East team to go to the Orange Bowl - did any of you drive there? It looks like a 16-17 hour drive.

Airfare will cost a small fortune and quite frankly I won't get approval from "the boss" to obtain it.

UC has said they will have packages. I suppose a bus package will be an option. Did any UofL fans travel by bus?

We drove. It was actually pretty cool because we saw a ton of WVU fans heading to the Gator Bowl and we wished each other luck in our respective bowls.

BCFan, typically you can get a decent deal on airfare from Indy, Dayton, or Columbus. 3 years ago I flew round trip from Columbus to Ft. Lauderdale for $150 after all taxes and fees. Obviously you won't get that deal, but with the economy I'd guess the airlines will be more price competitive than usual.

Right now if UC makes a BCS bowl my dad and I are going to the game. If it is just the 2 of us then we will fly. If more people join in then we may rent a car or van and split the driving duties down to the game... it would be a long drive but would be a blast with 4 or 5 UC fans.

Funny thing is that my dad is an Ohio State fan (went to school there). He roots for UC thanks to me and when I mentioned that I was going to go down to the game if UC makes a BCS he said he was in.

For me I see all 5 of those as our rivals along with UConn, Pitt, WVU, Cuse, Army, Navy, and Temple.

If you want to fly out of Louisville to Ft. Lauderdale, you can get a ticket for ~$250

A friend of mine owns Rick and Jeff Tours which is a sports tours company here in Louisville. I volunteered to work for them in exchange for travel and a free room. I rode down in the vans that brought all the food down to Ft Lauderdale where we stayed. I believe in addition to their air travel packages they also had 1 or 2 buses that came down. I did the same for the Gator Bowl trip.

For UL fans Rick and Jeff Tours does a GREAT job. They also usually have some Colts, Reds and Keeneland trips throughout the year. All are we well stocked with Bluegrass Brewing Co. beer as well!
