LXA-Tiger Wrote:the Dragon Wrote:Also, I expect the student section to be better than usual (which isn't saying much). Unless things have changed a lot in the last decade, Thursday is the biggest party night of the week, and students need something to do before going to the clubs and bars Thursday night. A ballgame is perfect. Of course free BBQ doesn't hurt either.
Free BBQ???? BBQ teams competing can not give out samples (Health Reg) to general public.... Sorry
At least 15 people that I know that usually don't come to UAB games will be there to go to a tent where they will be cooking and giving them free BBQ. I don't think that qualifies as the general public since it is a private tailgate basically.
I assume a lot of people (that don't regualrly come) will come for a similar circumstance.

Just FYI, Children's Hospital received free tickets from Viva Health, so look for a little boost to the crowd. From the tickets I've gotten from Viva Health in the past, they usually sit those folks on the "visitor" side to not make that side of the stadium look so empty. Not sure if any other facility received these or not.

Will the ticket window at Legion Field take credit cards?

If memory serves, I believe they do.

A number of these tickets are floating around UAB Hospital, so it could definitely help boost the crowd a little bit. Viva Health purchased a bunch of "Admit 4" tickets and has been giving them to UAB employees that wanted them.

I know the local media can't get Darling Nikki's genetalia out of its collective mouth long enough to comment on it.
And why would they? UAB hasn't given them anything to talk about on local radio. But on the other hand, I thought it was funny that none of the shows had the Memphis coach on to get his thoughts about UAB. Also, if it wasn't for the commercials no one would even know that UAB had a football game tonight. I have tickets and I keep forgetting about the game.
I want to blame the local sport shows for not giving UAB a little more love but I also understand why they don't do it. We don't listen to or call in to their shows so why should they talk about UAB? I know I sound negative but I'm just being honest.

there are numerous reasons as to why I/we no longer do this.

It's a chicken-and-egg thing. UAB fans don't listen to that crap because what do they get?
Totally ignored, except for occasional cheapshot comment.
What has UAB done? Well, we have a game scheduled for tonight. Now, that might not be much, but it's either us, or middle school games.
By Thursday, there are no new insights on the Todd's or API's games this weekend or ways to hash out what happened for them last weekend, but damned if they're not going to try.

I gave my coworker two tickets for the game. I asked her "you going tonight to the game?". She said game, what game.. isn't it Saturday?

All my co-workers knew I was getting off early to go to the game.
They all thought I was getting off early so I could drive to Memphis. Sad but true. 'Course, they're 90% bammers but still...

On the other hand, a Bammer aquaintance of mine (who's in grad school at UAB) just emailed me, saying, "Everyone's in green. When I asked why, they looked at me like I was crazy."
Duh.

Be thinking of me in the hospital while we're stomping a mudhole in Memphis.

Me too. I hate it most when I'm here while there's a basketball game since I'm just 3 blocks from Bartow Arena.

I am about to order tacos and watch the game. I have my hat on and my green t-shirt. Pom poms are off the wall and trying to talk my daughter into putting on her UAB cheerleader outfit.
