WVU has proven that you don't have to have to spend as much as most schools do to create a successful all-sports program. If the State of West Virginia is able to create and support winning programs, any other school should be able to do the same. Almost anyone will have more resources to work with.

If every Catholic school was like G-Town or Marquette we wouldn't have as many problems, but we all know that is not the case. Honestly, what does Seton Hall bring to the table? They don't have the history of Nova or G-Town and don't have the resouces of MU. The only time I can remember SHU being good for more then a year at a time was during the PJ years. They don't have an on campus areana, have a scary-small fan base and don't bring a market with them

Yes, I know every program goes though a down turn, but I can point at St Johns and see how they are helping the BE athletically in other ways with there baseball program etc. What sport is Seton Hall good at? Where are they putting there big bucks?

Last month, WVU drew 20,000 people to watch a football practice. When was the last time SHU drew 15k for anything? I think that demonstrates the diversity of the league.

I think many fans of the football schools see some of the Catholic schools in much the same way as we saw Temple football. All they do is collect the check without putting money into the pot. Yes, Rutgers and USF have struggled in basketball but they have helped greatly in football. Seton Hall and others in the league don't have football to worry about thus there level of basketball resouces should be high. The resources they put into basketball are not high though, which leaves many fans the impression that being competitve is not a prority. That combined with there poor record in Olympic sports and poor facilitys for there olympic sports is very frustrating. Especially when we could add a school like Memphis that could add more in an area that SHU should be strong (basketball), bring money/bowl(s) to football and frankly a stronger Olympic sports program. Didn't I read that Memphis was building a new 3 million dollar baseball staduim?

As long as the Pope is still Catholic, Seton Hall won't be booted out by the founding members. Our only real solution is a total split, so we can form a TRUE all-sports conference.

Kevin O'Neill once said, you need to recruit benchwarmers too. I think there is a lot of truth in that statement. A conference needs doormats. Replacing SH with Memphis would make it that much more difficult for BE teams during bball season. Every conference has doormats. I'll grant you that it is usually not the same school in all of the sports.

bitcruncher Wrote:That perception won't last long. The BEast is starting to win a number of recruiting wars with the established powers. Kids are starting to realize that they can get the same amount of exposure in The BEast, and the path to a national championship looks easier (at least that's the national perception - we can USE that). All teams in The BEast are improving, and we were rated the 2nd strongest conference by Sagarin for part of the season - until USF fell on their face.

We may have the 2nd strongest conference this year. We'll see. As long as The BEast keeps winning (and we will 04-rock) all our problems will just fade away.

I dissagree because an 8 team league portrays an image of weakness and it always has. The best thing we can do is add UCF, Memphis go to 10 and split. Give ND an ultimatum to put your cleats on and play or leave. Trangoose will probally resign if this happens, but who cares.......I believe in order to move forward we must split and go to 10 or 11 with ND on board as an all sports and ECU could be 12 with a championship game played at Gillette.

I think that Tranghese will end up representing the bb schools. Afterall, the BE hired an associate commish named Nick Caparelli, after the 2004 season. His focus is for the fb side of the BE. The question is "why does the BE suddenly need to hire an associate commish after almost 30 years of existance and not needing one. Mike Tranghese did say back during the raid that if the BE split, that he would retire because he could not allow himself to be in a position to choose which side he would represent.

So by bringing in an associate commish, he would not have to choose, because this would allow him to represent the bb schools, and Caparelli will be the commish for the fb schools. The 8/8 splitt between the fb and bb schools, the year 2010 to call for a split and the hiring of an associate commish all point to a split as far as I am concerned. Now all of this chatter about Memphis and ECU further solidifies my beliefs.
