Point taken...that doesn't always mean best though...IMHO, Devine looks to have more upside than White (assuming he stays injury and arrest free). A QB does more scrambling than rushing. Devine rushed for 8.2 per attempt...pretty good. However, I would be suprised to see White find a spot on an NFL roster as an athlete.

Numbers aren't everything. Anyone who actually watched WVU play would tell you that Devine was the better back last season.

People seem to forget that he was with Rodriguez for his entire term in Morgantown, running classes to instruct other coaches on the Mountaineer version of the spread offense. I don't think West Virginia will suffer any drop-off in offensive output. I think it will actually increase, since it won't be as one-dimensional as it was under Rodriguez.

Stewart has hired an excellent staff, and he addressed WVU's main concern in recruiting - the defense. He got some decent talent for some skill positions, in particular, addressing the need for depth at running back.

The rest of the conference is a crap shoot, like everyone says. But I think by the end of the season, UC and USF will be fighting it out for #2. Rutgers, Pitt, and UConn could all enter that discussion.

I hate predictions, they're all meaningless. But saying that, I think it will turn out like this...

WVU (can the Mountaineers run The BEast gauntlet unbeaten?)
UC/USF (2-3 BEast losses - head-to-head winner probably gets 2nd)
Pitt/Rutgers/UConn (3-4 BEast losses - pick your order, but I figure it will go as shown @ <)
Syracuse (who knows - I sure don't - all I know for sure is that SU ain't any kind of BEast I ever heard of)

That pretty much sums it up... L8r 07-coffee3
Hey Bit, The Ville is not in the league anymore. As for WVU running the gauntlet I doubt it very seriously.
Boy did I space on UofL. I can't believe I left 'em off. DOH! Stick 'em with Pitt/Rutgers/UConn and change it to 3-5 losses.

I don't think WVU will run the gauntlet either. But they have the talent to go unbeaten. And if things go their way, who knows? All really good teams have talent AND luck on their side. The Mountaineers have the talent. Luck is where you find it.

Devine appear to be a fine running back but he's small, & no one knows if he can take an entire season as a D1a starting running back without getting injured. If I'm not mistaken, Slaton was a little injury prone & I think he's bigger than Devine.

Some good stuff in here...

I have to agree with most who put Dustin at or near the bottom of BE QBs on the basis of his limitations (i.e. arm strength). That said, he’s not last by much. I’d say you have White at the top, followed by Cantwell and Grothe, and shuffle the cards on the rest of them. I hesitate to put Teel in the upper category probably because of my UC goggles. Two years in a row we’ve gotten the better of him. That said, he’s probably the best of the remaining five, but not by much. I don't think there's a bad QB in the league, but most of them are equal.

Brick City Pirate, if UC has to depend on the running game, there’ll be trouble. We weren’t exactly stellar in that category this season. Part of the problem was our experienced RBs and OLs were cut out for Dantonio’s power football philosophy, where Kelly’s spread system depends more on quickness. If the OL has completed the adjustment, things may be OK, but this offense still needs to pass the ball competently.

Good news is, we can definitely depend on the defense.

Finally, Maize my not remember who UConn’s QB is, but I guarantee you he remembers who their punt returner is 03-nerner 05-stirthepot

I know this thread is about QB's, but the news from Louisville (Good!) is that Krag is realizing the running game is a key. While they will be different looks obviously from Petrino, we will be going back to a lot more 2 back sets next season, as we always did under the snake. That isn't to say that we won't be slinging it with Cantwell, but we have a backload of great backs with potential and I think they will get more productive use. Our running game was non-existent for the last 2/3 of 2007.
