I don't think ND is afraid of playing WVU. There is no big scheduling advantage to ND in doing so, (recruiting, exposure, etc...) though.

There were also a lot of complaints about the treatment from the WVU fans in 2000. That doesn't help the Mountaineers cause in getting a home/home with ND, I believe.

You really dont think that ND could gain some additional exposure in playing WV, at WV or anywhere else? WV is sitting on top of the college fb world right now, along with a handful of other college fb powers, and they are much more respected on the gridiron at this point than ND can hope for. I think you are wrong about WV not offering any advantage in exposure, and maybe even recruiting. If ND beats a team as good as WV, which is something that they have not done in a while, it would turn some heads and get some recruits attention. There is plenty to gain from playing WV.

-- True..but we didn't have our QB in 1988 and WVU could have easily won the two games in South Bend. All the games were competitive

I can't imagine that ND and WVU will play in football anytime soon. Remember what ND is looking for. They want to play nuetral site "away games" and in locations that have large Catholic populations and thus a built in Irish fan base already on site.

WVU will be insistent that games be played in Morgantown. West Virginia has a very small Catholic population and thus few Irish fans. If you remember your US history, that was why the WV Primary election was so important to JFK. Anyway, any road game in WV will indeed be hostile unlike ND playing @ Boston College or @ Rutgers

Didn't ND use the "mean fans" excuse against Miami as well when the Irish were making the rounds playing BE schools...just not the Hurricanes? Maybe the Irish have gotten a little to used to those "neutral site" games 03-melodramatic

Yes, they did talk about the "mean" Miami fans. ND has not played the Hurricanes since...after beating Miami 2 of the last 3 games played between the two.

This deal is worthless.... A tent date vs Cincy at ND? NOOOOO WAY ...Oklahoma, Va Tech and OSU will play one for one and they are much more highly regarded than ND at this time. ..No way can we accept a one time away game at ND! A home game vs ND would be played at PBS in front of a sellout 67,000, why should we not benefit. One for One or NONE we are the higher ranked TEAM! They must play UL and WVU home and away also. The Big EAST should not let UConn and Rutgers play that many games unless the other top teams in the conference get the same benefit. This will eventually lead to a split! ND needs to play up or ship out. They are just another program yet they enjoy more benefits than any of us????
