Rutgers possibly upgrading OOC
RU had a TD club meeting with HC Greg Schiano and over 800 people attended. Schiano discussed a USC, UCLA and Texas A & M as likely candidates starting 2011. Also for next year there is talk of RU possibly scheduling LSU since both have a free spot in 9/13 and LSU was looking for a one and one with a BCS team. Man, any one of these programs would be great to face and a win would do wonders for our program and the BE as a whole...... hope it gets done.

Yeah, UL still doesn't have #12 yet, it would seem. Those match-ups for Rutgers sound great, definitely a big boost for the BE. Hope it gets done!

Wouldn't Pitt and USF be the holdups? I thought they had to wait for the NFL schedule to come out.

USF was also waiting on ESPN's decision about their game at UCF, which ESPN wanted to move to Friday night for national broadcast.
Not sure if its been finalized...but talking to some folks at the school, it "seemed" like a done deal...as a decision had to be made quickly (i.e. by early Feb) so that the Big East schedules can be released together.

Pitt and USF have played on the same weekend as the Steelers and the Bucs...and while Tampa has VERY good grass turf that seems to handle 2 teams sharing it...I can see how Pitt wouldn't LIKE to host 2 games over 2 days...as come Oct/Nov...that grass field just falls apart.
Wish the City of Pitt would just step in and place new FIELD TURF on the ground and tell Steelers owner Rooney to "shove it".

These games would be held at RU and NOT at the Meadowlands, correct? Also, any offical word as to whether the ND series is off because of ND's wish to have the games at the Meadowlands? I had read some rumors about that on the RU rivals board a while ago.
Thanks!

I think that the ND series is off because of ND's insistence at a 4 and 3 with all 3 at the Meadowlands and just a reluctance to schedule RU now that we're more than capable of beating them in either venue. If we get LSU on the schedule and beat them that would be huge for us and the conference. I can only imagine what a 13-0, 12-1, 11-2 type season with that victory does for us recruiting wise.

It depends on the Big East schedule. Outside of Oregon State, which was an ESPN thing, the Big East decides whether Cincinnati plays on Thursday because all of Cincinnati's other OOC games were played on Saturday.

Neither the Steelers nor the NFL has any say on which weekends Pitt plays at Heinz Field. Pitt can schedule games any weekend they want to, they do not need approval from anyone. That is the deal Pitt has with the Steelers/Rooneys, absolutely free scheduling. It usually happens on 2-3 weekends a year that Pitt and the Steelers both play at home. However the Big East would be wise to have Pitt play away on Thanksgiving weekend because that is when the 4 WPIAL High School Championship games are played at Heinz on Thanksgiving Friday and late November weather usually isn't good in Pittsburgh. But they (the BE) haven't been smart enough to arrange that the past 2 years.
Scheduling conflicts sometimes arise with the baseball Pirates though since their PNC Park is just a long Willie Stargell "Chicken on the Hill with Will" home run blast upriver from Heinz Field. However, those conflicts don't influence actual scheduling dates, they just occasionally create problems as to what time the Pitt game kicks off since both stadiums use a lot of the same parking lots.

Heinz is staying with grass. That has just been decided, here is a link to the story in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

This would definately be better than the SCREW JOB from Slimer DAME the AD's signed on for at Rutgers and and Conn. Tell me they can't do better with other top caliber BCS teams at their own stadiums or even at the Meadowlands where the BE schools are the home team and control the gate revenue streams and the TV rights.

Where are you getting this from? Rutgers has signed no such deal. Schiano told ND either the games are at RU stadium or F*** off.

Well, it looks like the Tampa Tribune may have uncovered one of the hold-ups:
http://www2.tbo.com/content/2008/feb/13/...eges-bulls
Quote:TAMPA - Aware of a contract giving exclusive use of Raymond James Stadium to the Atlantic Coast Conference the first week in December, University of South Florida officials pursued scheduling a nationally televised Big East football game at the venue two days before the Dec. 6 ACC Championship Game.
The USF-Rutgers game, which ESPN wanted to televise Dec. 4 from Raymond James Stadium, will be played on another date.
And no one is happy.
USF officials are upset the Bulls won't be allowed to play a nationally televised marquee Thursday night home game, while ACC officials are upset at being cast as the bad guy for not changing their plans.
I figured I'd beat KnightLight to posting this one, which casts USF in a negative light. However, and I'm not privvy to any of these details just yet, this sounds more like something that the Big East tried to set up first, and Brett McMurphy is doing his best (which is his usual approach) to try to paint USF as the bad guy here. However, I expect this to start anew the calls for an on campus stadium. I personally like the idea of playing in Raymond James Stadium myself, and would rather USF spend their money in the short term building other facilities. The stadium can wait.

And where are the Bucs in this whole scenario? While the NFL schedule isn't out yet, you have to wonder if they scheduled a Bucs home game on 12/7 and the NFL team asked to have the USF game moved so their wouldn't be a pair of recently played games on the RJ field.
As much hate as their is here for the ACC, I can't see where they are the problem. Their championship game date was known and its not really moveable. Plus their is over 24 hours between the ACC game and what would have been a USF game to change the field over.
