RE: Article on UCONN Bowl Ticket Sales
UCONN sold 12,000 now. Here is the link: http://www.uconnhuskies.com/AllStories/M...71220.html

I expect 3K to 5K brought through the old Ticket Master. Should be a good UCONN crowd there. I hope the local people and Wake fans will fill the rest.

That is great news Huskie Fans. This will certainly go a long way in developing a reputation that Uconn travels well.04-cheers

RE: Article on UCONN Bowl Ticket Sales
UCONN sold out its allotment. We are expecting at least 15K there. We won't know until we get there but Charlotte will be full of UCONN fans. I have said from the start between 15K to 20K UCONN fans will be there, so I am pretty close.

UCONN sold more bowl tickets through the school than every other BE teams as far as I know. WVU for whatever reason only sold 10K due to all the coaching rumors and distance.

Anyway, glad to see another BE team traveling well. BCU, for its part, sold only 3K to Champs bowl. Boy there will be all MSU fans at that game. BCU has solidified its reputation as a poor traveling team regardless what conference they belong to.

In Cincinnati's defense, we sold almost 10,000 (though there were probably between 10,000 to 12,000 Cincinnati fans there) and we had a far crappier bowl then Connecticut. Not making excuses, but if Cincinnati were in the Tire Bowl, with the location being perfect and with the opponent being a BCS opponent, Cincinnati would have easily blew by 10,000. I'm not taking anything away from Connecticut, but you have to keep that in mind when comparing Connecticut's ticket sales to other Big East schoosl.

I'm not sure we would have sold as well as UConn, but we are getting there. You have to figure Uconn has a history of traveling with their Basketball teams. Even when our BBall team was good, I don't feel we traveled exceptional well. Building this traveling fan base never seemed to be a priority to UC's administration prior to this year. I'd really like to see travel options to all the away games, especially the discounted rates for students. We seemed to have a decent contingent at Pitt. with the $100 bus package. That's what will really create that traveling base for our teams.

I agree with you, but it is time to let it go and move on. I was extremely happy with our turnout and from what it sounds they will be happy with theirs. This is just another positive for the Big East. Now lets keep it perfect and win all of our games.

RE: Article on UCONN Bowl Ticket Sales
-UConn sold out its 12,500
-WVU returned 7,500 of its 17,500 leaving a net of 10,000
(A lot of WVU fans had also made travel plans for New Orleans, before the flights and hotels got too expensive...and before WVU lost to Pitt.)
-Cincy officially sold 8,300
-USF sold 4,000+
No word from Rutgers yet
Rutgers did pretty well in previous years with Louisville just as good as WVU.

So the football league has a lot of teams that travel well to bowls games. I can’t wait for the next round bowls contracts.

RE: Article on UCONN Bowl Ticket Sales
The league is certaintly improving in this regards and I think that having schools that would bring 8,000+ to nearby bowls its a good sign and something that will be better looked by bowl officials.
WV,Louisville,Rutgers,UConn seem to meet hat requirement if USF and Cincy can be added to that list then thats 6 out of 8 with Pitt and Syracuse also capable of it.
So the Big east could go to any bowl game and say we can guarante that whichever school you take will sell over 8,000 tickets

Word Sly 04-rock We won #10 in convincing (even if rather sloppy) fashion, secured a spot (probably) in the top 20, and no one can take that away from us 04-cheers

It was a pleasant surprise to see many Cincy fans going to that bowl game based on the previous bowl history. I am very happy Cincy fans are finally embracing their football team.

Some people here questioned UCONN's traveling. I never had any doubt since I have seen UCONN fans everywhere when basketball teams played. Bringing 15K to 20K to a game where we have to fly for the most part is impressive for any school.

I am expecting UCONN to win this game. I will be on the plane in a hour on my way there from CA. It should be a great game. I just hope it does not rain. Actually, if it rains it won't be so bad since we play well in the rain.

Way to go UCONN. This will help the BE big time when the next round of bowl negotiations comes up.

The most important thing is during the next round of negotiations is we'll be negotiating from a position of strength both in terms of on the field and now fan support.

Article from Charlotte Observer:

Huskies fans get basketball tie-in
Alums Okafor, Armstrong play in Bobcats game tonight
RON GREEN JR.

If the expected crowd of more than 50,000 fans turns out for Saturday's Meineke Car Care Bowl at Bank of America Stadium, it won't all be Wake Forest fans.

Though the Deacons have sold more than 20,000 tickets through their athletic office, Connecticut has sold more than 12,500 tickets to the game.

"Connecticut has sold more tickets than Boston College -- which came twice -- Pitt and South Florida sold combined," Will Webb, executive director of the bowl said.

In 2004, Connecticut lobbied for a spot in the Charlotte bowl to face North Carolina but Boston College was selected instead.

This year, Connecticut officials were able to capitalize on the school's men's basketball program to enhance ticket sales. Fans were given the opportunity to buy tickets to tonight's Charlotte Bobcats-New Orleans Hornets game to see former Huskies Emeka Okafor and Hilton Armstrong face off.

Former Huskies player Caron Butler was in town Wednesday night as a member of the Washington Wizards.

"We thought this would be a great destination for our fans," Connecticut athletics director Jeff Hathaway said. "It's a great city with a lot to do and with a lot of our alumni on the eastern seaboard, it's easy for them to get here."

An omen?

If you're looking for which team has the edge Saturday, don't overlook what happened Thursday at Lowe's Motor Speedway.Connecticut's Randy Edsall won the annual tire-changing contest between coaches -- and the past four years the fastest coach at changing tires has also won the Meineke Car Care Bowl.

Ready, set, go

The Huskies had their final major practice Thursday at Charlotte Latin and Edsall was pleased with what his team accomplished in workouts here.

"We got everything done we needed to get done," he said. "I tried to make this as much like a normal game week as I could. Our practice facility was outstanding and we got everything in we needed to get in.

"We're as healthy as we were when we got here."
