Bowls
We all know the BEast needs to improve it's Bowl situation. I'd like to see us add one more for a total of six. Immediately, I'd like to trade in the Papa John's Bowl for the GMAC bowl. I think it is better attended and more respected, I think. I'd also prefer to go to Mobile over B'ham. I'd like to see the future of the BEast as...

1. BCS Bowl ..... I like our rotating among the bowls. We don't need ONE as our home.
2. NYC Bowl (Dome or retractable)..... BEast #2 vs. Big Ten #3
3. Tampa Bowl ..... BEast #3 vs. ACC #5
4. Champs Bowl (Orlando)..... BEast #4 vs. ACC #4
5. Music City Bowl (Nashville)..... BEast #5 vs. SEC #6
6. GMAC or Liberty Bowl (Mobile or Memphis).... BEast #6 vs. C-USA #1 or 2

RE: Bowls
It would be tough to get the Big Ten out of the Outback Bowl, especially since its a warm weather site on New Years Day. I think the Champs and Music City games are doable. I realize the GMAC was good to the UofL fans, but I'm not that enthralled with it.

On another thread they mentioned an Indianapolis bowl game. If done right it wouldn't be bad. Could call it the Hall of Fame Bowl since the NCAA Hall of Champions resides in Indy.

RE: Bowls
The only good reason I'd see for the Indy bowl is that it's so close to The Ville. We'd take a lot of people there for an afternoon. But it's not a destination place, that's for sure.

The Indy Bowl is a no brainer. Lucas Oil Field will be state of the art, Hall of Fame is there and the NCAA is headquartered in Indy.

The BE will never get the Liberty from the SEC.. unless the Sec wants to dump it.. taking the GMAC is possible. with a #4..Some negotiation might lead to a swap.. Mac #2/3 goes to birmingham while BE 4 goes to mobile.. I doubt they take much below #4 because they will want a guaranteed team.. with 8 in the league.. U wont always have 5.
no way no how will the BE get the champs bowl.. U may pull off a tampa bowl.. by either moving one or adding 1.. the biggest problem is U still after the gator are going to have mostly minimum type bowls.. though the location may improve.

I'd like to get away from playing the ACC all the time. We need to prove ourselves against all of the BCS conferences to finally rid ourselves forever of the stigma of the Big lEast.

The national perception hasn't really changed yet. But given time, it will. All we need to do is keep winning. 04-rock

RE: Bowls
New Big East Bowl lineup,

New Bowl Lineup for the Big East

#1 – BCS
#2 - Gator permanent for Big East VS. ACC
#3 - Indy Hall of Fame Bowl, Big East VS. Big Ten (New Bowl Game at Lucas Oil (Stadium)
#4 - Meineke Big East Vs. ACC
#5 – Liberty Bowl, Big East Vs SEC (CUSA get booted out)
#6 - A new Florida Bowl vs. SEC

The Big East drops the International Bowl and we kick CUSA out of the Liberty Bowl
The Big East adds 2 more Bowl Games vs. SEC and Big Ten. Every Bowl is VS. A BCS
Opponent. All Bowl game (not including the BCS) are in the South or East.

FYI Memphis has never played a Bowl Game at the Liberty Bowl.

RE: Bowls
1. The Liberty Bowl has a higher payout than the Music City Bowl.
2. The Liberty Bowl will not get rid of the SEC tie in. C-USA maybe, but not SEC.

This looks the best and most realistic to me. I definitly agree that we dont need any more bowl games against the ACC. 2 (or 3 when our champ is in the orange bowl) is more than enough. Id also like to add an SEC and Big 10 matchup. Maybe instead of 2 SEC games we get a big 12 school down with the new florida bowl.

I do think adding memphis would make taking the liberty bowl a lot easier. Plus imo they are the best option open to us as a 9th team anyway.

#1 - BCS
#2 - Gator / Cotton vs. ACC / SEC - Rotate these two bowls with the Big 12.
#3 - Meineke / Sun vs. ACC / Pac-10 - Bump the Sun down a spot and rotate.
#4 - Tampa vs. Army/Navy or a leftover - Keep friends close and enemies closer.
#5 - International vs. MAC - We have a stake in this bowl and need it to work.
#6 - Papa John's vs. CUSA - The sixth place team has no reason to complain.

RE: Bowls
Everyone keeps talking about just adding new bowls, as if it is that simple. There are too many bowl games as it is, with over half of Division 1A teams playing in postseason bowl games. I think the only way to create a new bowl at this point is for another crap bowl to be replaced. I think the Indy bowl location vs. the Big Ten is a good idea, but another unsuccessful bowl would have to shut down in order for the Indy Bowl to replace it (like the Pizza Bowl for example). Not to mention the fact that the Big Televen already has 7 bowl tie-ins for its 11 schools. Are you going to give them an 8th bowl tie in? Are they going to give up one of their other tie-ins for that bowl? How many years will they have enough bowl eligilble teams to fill that bowl?

It sounds simple to say, lets just add another bowl, but it is not that easy.

Actually it is - where Memphis goes, the Liberty Bowl goes. As long as the Tigers are in C-USA, the C-USA vs SEC matchup is solid.

RE: Bowls
The ACC and Big Ten have been conducting preliminary talks about matching up ACC #7 and Big Ten #8 in Atlanta since last Spring. It will probably happen in 2010 when the next cycle of bowl contracts begins. The ACC is also looking to start another new bowl for their #8, possibly in Baltimore or a warmer place in the Southeast, at that time too. It would actually make sense for the ACC to pair up their #8 with Sun Belt #2, since they will be needing a bowl, and kill two birds with one stone.

The ACC wanting to get out of Boise and San Francisco creates a great opportunity for the Big East and WAC if we work together. San Francisco can go to the WAC while the Big East creates the Tampa Bowl. Boise and Tampa will both need opponents at that point. Here is the stroke of genius. Use those two bowls to rotate Army and Navy as the annual opponents. If they miss being eligible one year just invite a leftover Big Ten or SEC team as a replacement. Three more bowls can work.

Do you think the Big East wants a Bowl vs. the MAC or CUSA? No.
Do you think The Big Ten wants a Bowl vs. The MAC is Detroit?

The Indy Bowl replaces the either the International or the Motor City
and features the Big Ten vs. The Big East. The MAC and CUSA can play each other.

RE: Bowls
My take on the Bowls.

1. BCS ( I also like the rotation)
2. NEW Indy Hall of Fame Bowl Big East vs. Big 10
3. Gator/SUN Bowl ACC vs. Big 12 / Big East (Without Notre Dame inclusion. A PAC 10 team will be met in the SUN Bowl.)
4. Cotton Bowl Big 12 / Big East vs. SEC
5. Chic fil A Bowl Big East vs. SEC
6. Alamo Bowl Big 12 vs. Big East

I'm going to be honest with you.. I'm not sure of the payouts on the bowls. I'm sure there may be some contradiction, but I was looking at a bowl with each and every BCS conference. With the rise in the Big east conference, I feel we have enough clout to possibly work our way into some of these bowls.

According to Tranghese 4 different Bowl reps have approached the Big East about securing the big east for exisiting bowl games. That is a direct reflection of the exciting and solid football being played in the big east and a credit to teams like Louisville, Cincy, Rutgers, USF etc. WVU has had may huge seasons over the years and WVU has been there and done that. One reason I like the Indy Bowl is the facility, Lucas Oil Stadium, and location in terms of being within driving distance to Ville,
Cincy, WVU, and Pitt. The NCAA and the NCAA Hall of Fame is in Indy so I think there is some leverage there.
