I love the WAC!
My god what a difference a year makes. Last year we were losing to teams like Florida who? International? Arkansas Little rock and Middle Tenessee. A year later fans are buzzing and The last 2 games against Utah State and Nevada reminded me of my childhood on the crowds we got when Neil McCarthy was coach.
Good crowd tonight and the place was rocking. I say there was more or less 9k there and the students really showed up and really got on Fazekas. The notorious nice shot chant after the other team makes a free throw has returned. My seat is in the second row behind the basket and the students were really getting on Fazekas. Going on the road to Reno and Logan will be hard and their crowds will match the Pan Amaniacs in intensity.
With the way the WAC is turning out we could look like the Missouri Valley conference in basketball in a few years.
I can see 2 teams dancing and 2 in the NIT.
Great game Nevada. Nevada won 90-81 and the game was much closer than the score. I say the Crimson Aggies won some respect tonight even in the loss.

NMSU had the respect of Aggies for a while now and were worried with how we were going to handle the Aggie offense. With us never winning down there until this game was another obstacle to overcome. Fox had nothing but great things to say about the team and coaching staff down there.
Until moving to the SUn Belt, NMSU was always pretty good in b-ball so maybe Sun Belt did more damage than people thought to the entire program overall.

Anyone that doesn't respect NMSU by now isn't paying very close attention.
I got to watch part of the game on the WAC feed, and am really looking forward to Thursday's game in Reno!
Last night's attendance is listed as 8112, and the radio announcers were saying part of the arena can't be used due to the renovation. Any guesses what percentage of usable space was filled?

Yeah I know some do respect us, but not everyone does. But I know by next year everyone will have our respect.

Isn't two teams in the NCAA tourney and a couple in the NIT pretty typical for the WAC? I think the only year the WAC didn't get two in the NCAA's was when Fresno was on probation.
I can see NMSU competing for the title next year, so the quality of WAC basketball is only getting better.

The WAC has never I believe, received only 1 bid to the NCAA tournament. It has always been two teams or more. And the WAC has always sent a couple to the NIT.

According to kenpom.com, in 2003, with Fresno as the regular season champ on probation (20-8, 13-5, rpi 69), the WAC, as the #14 conference, only sent Tulsa (22-9, 12-6, rpi 64). But with the WAC at #14, it's unlikely that Fresno would have got an at-large, even if they weren't on probation.

Yeah there was one year we only sent one team to the dance. And that was the first time it had happened in over a decade or something crazy like that.
Nevada's two great road wins, put them back in the at-large pool. Nevada and USU both only have two road games left so both are in great position to finish the season strong. (Because we all know Hawaii is going to win the WAC tournament. :) )

NCAA and WAC
I think USU and Nevada are in. LA Tech and U of H to the NIT, If NMSU will finish strong and show good in the bracket buster and Wac Tourn. they will get a NIT. Or they could go out and win the whole damn thing and get the automatic bid.

Anyone that knows any basketball history has great respect for NMSU basketball. Broncos and Aggies had some great shootouts in the old Big West.....
