I've been paying semi-close attention to all of the shiz surronding the slot machines / tax bills over the past several months. I've also noticed because of the problems within our county governmnet (Anne Arundel) and the teacher protests (luckily they got their STEP increase now, but not their COLA [cost of living allowance] )
I was never too keen on slots, and even after it got defeated the first time I thought it was extremely childish of Gov. Ehrlich to automatically veto every single tax bill that came forward after that.
Since the racetracks have begun to ask for a little less percent wise in the slots revenue, it looks like when Ehrlich brings it back up in July that it will pass, which is why the Democratic Speaker of the House Busch has now turned his argument around and begun supporting slots. Just politics, I suppose.
But just how much of the slots revenue MD acquires will go to education? Definitely not all of it, like Ehrlich says. It just seems to be that since he hasn't really gotten much else done, and his slots is in turmoil, that this guy is going to be a one-term Governor. By the next time elections roll around for MD governor though, I plan to be out of the state.
Any MD residents have thoughts on this?

I'd agree with that, SSJT, i don't think Ehrlich is doing an adequate job so far. Unfortunately, i don't think that townsend would have either. I definately agree with your final statement, namely that i will be gone from MD by the time the next election rolls in.

Yeah, Townsend was not my favorite either.
I laughed out loud watching her try to debate Ehrlich -- not only was she one of the worst debaters I've ever witnessed (I'm a backup on my Forensics team and I could have taken her), but she ran a horrible campaign too.
Even with the sh** Glendenning pulled at the end of his term, I'd have taken him again rather then choose between those two.

I enjoy it, but the research is what kills me. I'm more of an impromptu debater...give me a topic, give me 10 mins, and send me out there. bam!

I used to live in Anne Arundle county. I have not heard that the slot funds were to be siphoned off away from their intended use as education funding.
They need more WMTA busses in AA county.

Ehrlich won't come directly out and say it but everyone knows only a portion will go to education, the rest will go to whatever special interest groups he's in debt to most.
