For sure.
That stuff was all the rage when I returned home from the service [Revolutionary War]. We used to buy it by the case. For variety, would mix it with Budweiser. It was many years before I knew what a corkscrew was.

Mrs Oldtiger and I were married while I was in the service at Fort Bragg NC.....nothing like a good plastic glass of Boones Farm while watching Dark Shadows at lunch.

that place is GREAT...if i don't buy at buster's, i buy there. but you have to be willing to swap brands often - they don't keep the same brands of wine at the same price for long.

This is weird. I just drove home from the Central Coast of CA yesterday. On the way, I passed through dozens of vineyards on Route 46 around Paso Robles. I didn't know they grew wine there. I thought the vineyards were closer to Santa Barbara. The biggest was Merridean (sp?). Wine tasting signs up and down the highway. Felt like 'Sideways' What a beautiful area.
As for inexpensive wines, Clos du Bois (sp?) is pretty good if you like Chardonay.
Best cab I ever had was Duckhorn. It's under 10 bucks if you stuff it in your pants and have a friend around for a decoy. While you're at it grab a bottle of Cakebread.

Cakebread, Liberty School, and Dynamite are some of my favorite labels but they usually fall around the $15 to $18 for a 750ml
One my wife has been enjoying as a general "keep in the fridge for a glass of dinner wine" is Foxhorn Pinot Grigio
A mag is around $6 or $7. I had a glass the other night and it's pretty tasty especially for the price.

Went to the store next to Costco today at lunch...they have the kind of tequila I get for pretty cheap, so I looked around at their wine while I was there:
Penfold's brands for 6.99/bottle
Barefoot brands for 4.99/bottle
Crane Lake brands for 3.99/bottle.
They also had a 1/5 of Malibu run for 11.99...
and, I got the Lindeman's at Buster's yesterday for 4.99/bottle as well.

homefry20 Wrote:For those of you who like reds I would highly recommend the Root 1 Cabernet from Chile. Full bodied with a lot of cherry flavor. $13. Another light bodied red for around that price would be te Gnarly Head Zinfandel (This is a red Zin, not white or blush.) Its an old vine Zin witha smooth taste and a nice finish. $11.
As for a white, I would go with the Kim Crawford Marlborough (AUS) Sauvignon Blanc. Nice and dry as are most from Aussie but easy to drink as well. $13.
I'm really glad you made this post. Kim Crawford was a wine I've been trying to remember since I had it last year. I was on vacation in CA and there was a small Vons grocery store that had it on display in their wine section. I asked one of the employees what he would suggested and he said all the locals were always asking for it. Great wine.
I asked my wife if she could remember the name. I said to her it was some wine from Australia with a womens name like Karen or Cathy. It was driving us both nuts. I highly recommend this one too. Now I can ask for it here in town.
