The location is about the only place on campus it can sensibly be. Traffic, parking and tailgating will be limited. Stadium size and expandability will be limited by the location, budget and additional facilities bundled into the project. The off-campus Rubber Bowl era will be over and the program will have a much needed shot in the arm for attendance and recruiting. However, the future of Zips football in our lifetimes will be fixed...we will remain a mid-major team in a mid-major conference with a smallish fan base. We should be able to compete year in year out at the top of the league and make it to one of the lesser bowl games more seasons than not. Within about 5-7 years we will have attained our potential level of success, then it will be a matter of staying at that level long term.
Basketball will have a bit more potential nationally but will also be limited by the football stadium, in that it will keep us in a "smaller" conference which limits recruiting. Nothing wrong with being a mid-major but it will feel strange after all the struggling years knowing we've reached our destination and the major growth phase is over.
Academics & research, the real mission of the university, is unlimited in its growth potential and will be our claim to fame in the future more so than athletics.

Good points. That is the purpose of the U is the academics. Sports are great and educational, but don't affect the majority.
The Sun Bar and Grill is toast!

I noted the freeway
to the right of the drawing.
Damn, a fan accessible football stadium.
I'm all for it.

Yes, that is Route 8, or the North Akron Expressway.
I remember going up to your place, Rynerson, in '79. Nice press box...they put on a good spread at halftime.
I was told that the Detroit Wheels of the old WFL put in the press box, lighting and stands on the opposite side in exchange for EMU letting them use it as their home field.
Any improvements since then?

You can't help but pick up an inferiority complex, being a MAC fan.
Even though I have felt this way, especially in Columbus, I am very comfortable being a MAC fan.
Great schools, building traditions, a high-quality level of competition.
I like the MAC! It's a lot of fun. Especially, talking smack with that sign-toting hippie school to the east. ;-)

...and it is so much more an authentic college athletic experience. OSU has become so big, it is more like the NFL than college. Teams like Akron don't have national attention with big egos. Most players are done after their senior year. They play for the love of the game IMO.

That's excellent. A stadium right across Rt. 8 from the ghetto and projects. I can't wait to pay $3.00 to park in the crappy part of town you all call school. At least it is better than paying $3.00 to park in a tore up field. Hey, maybe you can kick it up to $5.00 and have the Oriana House's clients run valet services.

Umm.... the UofA has been buying up a whole bunch of that ghetto for future expansion south of Exchange Street. Some projects have already started. Jealous??!

Flash, get back in your hole. That area of Exchange St. is no worse than those hillbilly shacks you have on Rt. 59 right across from your campus.
