2005 MAC Men's Golf Champion Kent State
May 7, 2005--WESTERVILLE, OHIO - Kent State University fired a final-round 7-under-par 281 en route to winning its 14th conference championship as Ryan Yip and Tommy Wiegand of KSU shared the individual title as the Mid-American Conference Men's Golf Championship wrapped up Saturday afternoon at the par-72, 6,875-yard Medallion Club in Westerville, Ohio.
The Golden Flashes surpassed the previous four-round record of 1,125, which they set in 2000 on this same course, carding a four-round total of 33-under 1,119 to win the title by 19 strokes. Eastern Michigan finished the day in second place at 14-under 1,138 while Ball State ended the tournament in third place at 2-under 1,150.
KSU's Ryan Yip and Tommy Wiegand became the first co-champions since 1970 after finishing the weekend at 11-under 277. Wiegand had the low-round of the day, firing an 8-under 64 while Yip carded a 1-under 71. Tyler McDannold rounded out the top-three at 7-under 281 after recording a final-round 2-under 70.
Kent State earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Central Regional, May 19-21, at Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind.
