They're talking to each other because they each want to try to help the other uplift it's profile. GCU & NMSU can help the HL's conference RPI while the HL can give GCU & NMSU higher visibility via the ESPN Family. The HL has several games on ESPN and since the upcoming season will see GCU's NCAA eligibility, they will be a hot commodity. All three parties realize the marriage would only be temporary, but in the short term, it could help all involved.

And again, Robert Morris in all likelihood will be #10.
