In this one he makes it quite clear that the Power 6 stuff is a marketing effort designed primarily to change the conference perception among members of the press and the general public.

A week or so ago, maybe 10 days but definitely before the contract extension was announced, I said that the real audience for this "Power 6 stuff", the one Aresco could never admit to, was the AAC member schools themselves, to sell the AAC schools on the idea that Aresco has a Big Power Plan and therefore he's worth the salary he draws, which from what we have heard at $1.6m per year could plausibly be called a Power salary, closer to a P5 than a G5 commissioner salary, and is almost equal to what each AAC school gets from the media deals he signed.

And lo and behold, what just happened? Aresco got a 5-year contract extension. 07-coffee3
