You can make that argument for any G5 beating a P5 - but you run 8 P5 games per year at them and that is going to be a lot tougher to contend with now/today.

Houston beat Oklahoma - yay great win - you beat a P5 - who won your conference again? NOT Houston..... By your argument, if you can beat a P5 you should dominate your own conference, let alone wining in a P5 conference...

Aside for maybe the SEC, most of the power conferences have no more than 3-4 teams that are cut above the best of the G5 (some have only 1-2). As an example, in the Big Ten last year you have OSU, Michigan, Penn State and Wisconsin who were really good... the middle of the pack is not that great and the bottom tier (Rutgers, Purdue, Illinois, Maryland) would finish in the lower tier in the MAC/Sun Belt Conferences*.

The point being is that the better G5 programs are pretty darn good and can hang with most of the P5. The issue is that there maybe 10-15 programs that are pretty loaded every year and even the rest of the power conferences can't contend with them.
* My alma had its worst team in a decade and we still beat Purdue 38-20. UC did not beat them because of some gimmick play or because it was their "Superbowl". They were bigger, stronger and faster than them across the board.

Yes you beat ONE P5 team --- bully for you --- Are you familiar with the phrase "on any given day". Again, line up 8 P5 conference games right now and tell me you are fighting for the conference championship - Uh no, not likely - not even in the Big 12.

Appalachian State Beat Michigan (in Michigan) some time ago - does that mean they should be in the B1G now - I think you know the answer to that.
