The P5 really wants to move to keep it at P5 status. You have strong schools out there that can spoil the party. Now, the talk is this. Even though academics does matter, but they know that they could lose money if they added losers in sports. Adding somebody from outside the box to the P5 can keep it P5 while weaken the other conferences.

P5 schools in G5 conferences:
Houston
Memphis
UCF
USF
Cincinnati
Navy
Temple
UConn.

C-USA:
Southern Mississippi
Western Kentucky
Marshall
Middle Tennessee State
UTSA (could be a threat in the future)

MAC:
Bowling Green
Toledo
Western Michigan
Northern Illinois

MWC:
San Diego State
Hawaii
Fresno State
UNR
New Mexico
Air Force
Colorado State
Boise State

Sun Belt:
Appalachian State
Georgia Southern

Indy:
BYU
Army

FCS:
Jacksonville State
James Madison
Youngstown State
North Dakota State
South Dakota State
Eastern Washington
Illinois State
Northern Iowa
Towson (yeah, I know they lost to Alabama, but they did scored a lot of points on them.)
McNeese State
Youngstown State
Central Arkansas (yep, they won a game over Arkansas State and came close in beaten Oklahoma State.)

North Dakota State, Youngstown State, Eastern Washington and James Madison have won games against FBS, and over several P5 schools.
