Please. That was the only year in the last 100 years in which both teams were ranked. Any game between two ranked teams near the end of the season gets good ratings.

If someone ever suggested that Cal vs Stanford wasn't to be played because of TV ratings you'd fall on the floor laughing...

You're distorting. The idea of the thread is that all of these games are so important that the teams should be compelled to play them every year whether they want to play each other or not. Cal and Stanford are in the same conference. If someday in the future they are not in the same conference, and there is not enough interest to play it as a non-conference game, then so be it. In those circumstances, no one should force them to play.

But someone suggested, and you appear to be agreeing, that the one and only year ever in which both Kansas and Missouri were ranked is somehow evidence that the game is every-year must-see TV. Sorry. Not buying it.

Don't agree at all with this^ don't put thoughts in my head. The game is a college sports rivalry game. College sports are about tradition and rivalries. Don't care what the rankings are. I've watched Stanford vs Cal if it comes on TV because it's a rivalry game, not because either were highly ranked.--which like Kansas vs Missouri, is rarely the case. I'm from Iowa originally and know how huge the game is, just like I know about Cy-Hawk and Bedlam rivalries even though it was rare for both Iowa and Iowa St to be ranked at same time and until recently OSU was rarely ranked when they played OU in Bedlam.
