The buck stops at the university. I've always said, to simply say "we are your neighbors, support us" or "you graduated from here, support us" is lazy and not a compelling enough reason to build a relationship.

The new Dekalb mayor is an NIU alumn and seems keen to pushing the NIU-Dekalb thing.


I know Jerry Smith and he is indeed a proud NIU alum. He also is an NIU football and basketball avid fan, season ticket holder, and HAF donor. He has bled red and black for many years. I can guarantee that the NIU - community relationship will improve.
