It was probably forward by one foot. Close enough you're putting it up to the ref's judgement. And the call down was accurate -- it did stay at the same yard marker for the entire pitch (3 feet in a yard etc). Regardless, it was a *terrible* decision to pitch into a completely blown up play. Nothing good could have happened there. The least bad thing would have been to eat the 4 yard loss.

forward by 1 foot is still a forward pass. lol

and I totally agree about the decision itself. not a good one at all.
