It looks like GSU has some competition for the Turner Field site. The Mayor and Governor seem to prefer the GSU plan but these casino companies are sure to pure a lot of money into the Atlanta economy.

Nobody is staking their political career on putting a casino complex in the middle of 5 or 6 low income, disadvantaged neighborhoods. You think GSU has an uphill battle? Go for it MGM. LOL.

Would not be shocked at all if the mayor "leaked" this so the neighborhood groups would see what the alternative is.

As plausible as your comment on the leak sounds, and as much as I doubt Deal or Reed (or the Bible thumper crowd) would allow a casino in downtown Atlanta, I doubt just as much that those poorer neighborhood groups aren't the real targets of the casinos after all. Go into any convenience store on Friday evening and see who is buying lotto tickets...it isn't the guy in the Mercedes or BMW. I'm guessing that there are loads of studies out there showing that the lower income folk are the biggest participants in all forms of gambling - casinos, horses, etc. - and can least afford it.
The neighborhood groups have a laundry list of items they want to see and it pretty much matches our plan and yet they are still being cautious, picky and wary. There is zero chance a casino would cause anything other than a march on city hall and the Capitol.
