No surprise to me on Marshall not being ranked. They may be undefeated, but in the eyes of most, they haven't played anyone of note - and have only played one team with a winning record (Middle Tennessee) and they are only 5-4. It's a resume that doesn't wow anyone and Rice is the only other team above .500 ahead on their schedule - so not really an opportunity to make an impression either and any loss and forget it - they're not even in the running with 2 or 3 loss programs.
