The folks in the rest of Georgia pretty much look at the Atlanta Metropolitan Area as a cancer on the State. That's not so true of Birmingham, Nashville, Jackson, etc. I do think that the Research Triangle and Atlanta share that kind of distinction in common.

True, but as the saying goes, with ATL, Georgia would be Mississippi. There animosity between metro ATL and the rest of the state is IMO artificially manufactured by rural politicians as a way to maintain power.

That is a tangent which is valid. However, the cultures are both distinct, and incompatible. Then there are the issues on the lottery. 7 counties carried it out of 157 (or ever how many Georgia has). There is the use of Lake Lanier and the Chattahoochie where others wishing, and needing to draw from those water sources are locked out, or in the case of the Hooch the water containing raw sewage from Atlanta is too disgusting to utilize recreationally and the main reason bottled water sells so well in Columbus. Drive over the Hooch at the Stateline one night (when they dump) and roll your windows down. The smell of the sewage is unmistakable. No Vandiver Atlanta, their sewage and garbage disposal, their inept water usage, and their corruption within their local politics is a cancer on the rest of the state and many in the other regions would prefer a Mississippi like existence. Mississippi is poor and has bad roads, but the small towns still function fairly well. BTW, Coastal Georgia has a very nice life without Atlanta.
