We will never have any control over our public perception. Nobody does, not even the SEC and B1G.
And in basketball, that's not a bad thing. With 5 teams headed for the tournament, we have had a very good first campaign and are establishing ourselves as an elite basketball conference, which was critical given that Louisville is leaving.
I'm of the opinion if you're not controlling the message, someone else is. One key to me is The American, must attempt to control the narrative. The NFL has the Black & Blue division which is the NFC central division teams, Chicago Bears "Monsters of the Midway" Notre Dame "Fighting Irish" SEC there chant SEC...SEC...SEC. So there is some history there for one.
