2014 Pro Bowl will be even more stupid.
No more AFC vs NFC, now it's Team Jerry Rice vs Team Deon Sanders. Oooo! Real teams could have players on either Pro Bowl team. Imagine a player injuring another player from the same team. I look for it to be a big game of patty-cake just to make sure that does not happen. No sense having a punt, pass, and kick competition at halftime, you see plenty of that during the game.
Here are some other rule changes:
A two-minute warning will be added to the first and third quarters, and the ball will switch hands after every quarter.
There will be no kickoffs. A coin toss will determine which team is awarded possession first, and the ball will be placed on the 25-yard line at the start of each quarter and after scoring plays.
No more kickoffs. Too dangerous. Patty cake patty cake baker's man.
The defense will be permitted to play "cover two" and "press" coverage. In the previous years, only the "man" coverage was permitted, except for goal line situations.
A slight change for the better. Defenses have been way too restricted in Pro Bowls. They should be allowed to blitz, too
Beginning at the two-minute mark of every quarter, if the offense does not gain at least one yard, the clock will stop as if the play were an incomplete pass.
So if you have a lead and you are on D at the end of a quarter, do not sack the QB, but let him gain a yard to keep the clock running. Carry him across the line of scrimage, yourself, if you have to.
A 35-second and 25-second play clock will be used instead of the usual 40-second and 25-second clock.
That's nice.
The game clock will not stop on quarterback sacks outside of the final 2 minutes of regulation/4th overtime.
The main thing that will be lost with the Pro-bowl, is that one game where players have to work together with their enemies to defend their conference. Now it's win one for Deon (or Jerry).
Who cares about Rice and Sanders? If they want to get back in the game, they can work their way up the coaching ladder.
