ESPN extends BYU media deal by 1 year to 2019

I figure in 2019 ESPN will offer something like a 6 year deal totaling 165 million...they'll do like before and sell off the content they don't want to CBS Sports.
we'll take it and it'll all blow up in 2025.
You mean 2.2 million per team per year? That would be a slap in the face.
no, I mean 2.292 million per team per year (until 2025). That's more than the 1.9 we get now.
we'll get a small bump in pay (coupled with a small bump in exposure) until it all falls apart in 2025...if you think for a second we're heading for some big pay day...well, I got swamp land in Florida to sell you.
How did you come up with 165 million figure? What is your rationale?
what's my rational? low expectations are easy to exceed...I'm not expecting much from the company hemorrhaging money and viewers these past couple years.
It's all gonna blow up in 2025 and ESPN just wants to string the AAC/MWC along until then.
I just don't see NBC or FOX getting into a bidding war over the AAC rights.
our old amount was 126 million over 7 years...I'm projecting we get 165 over 6 years for all 12 teams, or a 30% increase.
126 x .30 = 37.8
126 + 37.8 = 163.8
so my guess is roughly 165 million spread out over 6 years starting in 2019 which takes us to 2025.
Your not accounting for the fact that we were way undervalued the first go round.

People talk about it "blowing up" in 2025. WTF does that even mean? How are people so sure that all of FBS is just going to go nuts when 2025 hits?

Big12 TV deal ends in 2025...Texas and Oklahoma become 'unrestricted free agents' so to speak.

Texas still has the longhorn deal past that though, so only Oklahoma is free.

Kansas will be ready in 2025. They just announced they will build a $300 Million stadium. They already have great BB facilities.
KU and OU will probably join the B1G in 2025. UT may not have great options.

then you have a 7 member Big 12 wanting to get back to 12 (so their name finally makes sense again, lol)
BYU, Cincy, UConn, Memphis, CSU, Boise St, Houston, etc...all the 'usual suspects' will be back playing musical chairs for the open spots.
'may the odds be ever in your favor!' cause it'll be a free-for-all

I believe the SEC has a clause granting teams veto powers in expansion

RE: ESPN extends BYU media deal by 1 year to 2019
UT has succeeded by manipulation as much as performance. They pick their competition carefully. Historically, the winner of the OU-UT game had a good chance of winning the Big-12 championship. Win one difficult game and your team is the champion. Sure, a KSU will win occasionally, but not often.
UT might join the B1G. There have been discussions in the past.
They might get an arrangement like ND with the AAC.
The PAC would probably accept them but they do not have good relations with the PAC schools after the last encounter. They would want a mid west group but the choices would not be good without OU an KU. There is always the LHN problem.
Several SEC schools support each other in preventing additional schools in their states, including Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Don't know if A&M has joined them or not, but A&M would not want UT in the SEC.
Then, they might become independent.
In any event, if OU and KU leave, the Big-12 will no longer be a "power" conference.

Disagree. As long as the B12 has either OU or UT they will be a power conference. They will be weakest and make less money with UT only, but with the LHN and still a power conference. They may choose to stay or go Indy.

RE: ESPN extends BYU media deal by 1 year to 2019
Back to the OP subject. The reason for the BYU extension is likely as simple as there are no current benchmarks from which to easily & directly value a new contract (or ESPN doesn't like the available benchmarks). ESPN would like a similar situation when it comes time to negotiate a new AAC deal - no current comparable benchmarks. That will always give ESPN the best basis from which to lowball a contract.

So should the Big10 drop four to be in line with their name?
