I might have missed it elsewhere but I haven't heard JB give Convo fundraising specifics.
"I'm optimistic, if we keep doing our work, end of fall we will get that thing funded."
"The goal would be to finish up that effort this fall and then sometime next year finish the plans with construction to follow as soon as possible."
EDIT: Story written in late June with clips from the same interview as the OP but doesn't mention a new goal date, just discusses missing the end of June initial goal by $5M.

It was a positive story. Possibly old news to some on these boards, but since when did we start bashing positive press coverage about the Dukes?

RE: WHSV - state of JMU athletics
I heard the Bourne interview as positive.
- Bourne did not say "CAA" in the entire interview, that had to be hard for Jeff (he must have had a fork in his pocket and he stabbed his own leg when he was tempted)
- Call me crazy, but that was as close as I have ever heard Bourne say "if a conference not named Sunbelt offers, we are gone.
I do believe that CUSA/MAC/AAC know we would make the move but is it too late? JMU trying now may not make up for JMU not trying for the past 10 years.
Do I feel better if JMU is left behind, no.

Deez you just completely changed my mind on him. I think hes positioned himself well to become the best AD in the history of the ever changing and fluid college athletics landscape should someone ever decide to put a list together like that, but, keep in mind much remains unknown at this point so we'll have to wait, and we might see that happen in 18-24 months.

JMU missed the boat under Rose's direction. For Haze and others, why is this Bourne's fault? When the school President says no. Why do you blame the AD?
Since Rose's retirement, JMU was a UMass decision away from the MAC, SB invite decline from being in the SB(again, President's decision) and now is awaiting a Big 12 decision.
The effort has been there but only one time was JMU in control of the decision. The CAA also remains a good mid major league for us.
I certainly understand your position and a few others that we should have taken the Sun Belt. That is the one decision in which you have ground to stand on. I also understand why JMU chose not to go. The rest of your commentary just feels like you, like Dukeman, have an agenda. You want Bourne fired. What did this guy do to you for you to be so vindictive?

It's easy...it's now Algers fault because he won't say, and probably won't let coaches and JB say - "we want it, let's do it"....app did it, gas x2 did it, Charlotte did it, odu did it, freaking COASTAL CAROLINA said it...
It's way too late to be coy - we would be lucky to get an invite now so we should be leading with our chins.

Actually, JMU was in control of the decision twice, though Bourne and the current admin may not have been. Seeing JMU say "no" to two FBS opportunities does not encourage fans who have heard "we're moving soon" for many years. If JMU says no again this time around many of us may give up on supporting football. Its just too hard to see us playing Elon and Moorehead when the fans, players, and coaches deserve better competition. If UD, UR, WM go to the Patriot there will be little left to cheer for.

another test of the state of JMU athletics will be how full BFS is this season. I know it has been asked many times since July 1, but does anyone have any numbers on season tickets? Is this even a metric we've ever had access to pre-season?

Article in the DNR says sales are slightly better this year. Still well under the 2011 height.

Carpenter & AD Jeff Bourne said ESPN's visit to Harrisonburg last fall for College GameDay helped create extra interest in football program.

We're literally 71 season tickets away from beating last year's ticket sales total. JMU said 2011 was the peak sales and has had a consistent decline every year since then. This year looks to be the first year to buck that trend.
They attribute interest thanks to last year's college gameday appearance and better play overall the past two seasons on the field.
They also said home opener, family weekend and homecoming are tracking better at this point than in prior years. Historically, most season ticket sales occur during final month before season so they'll pass last year's mark.

Can we find that list in the same place we can find the list of ranked national models for engaged universities?
