What will ND ever do without that series with Michigan?
In 2017, ND will play Georgia, Michigan State, USC, Stanford, Miami, and Louisville.
In 2019, ND will play the ACC games, plus Georgia, Texas, USC, and Stanford.
See ya, Michigan.

Terry,
Cuse has two "Home" games against ND in NJ. Unless ND is planing on playing Army at West Point, you need to remove that star from central NY. No way ND goes to that sad, rundown dome.
Then that beat down that Syracuse put on Ty Willingham's 2003 ND team in the Carrier Dome was all a mirage ? Whew!
After these couple of games at Met Life (scheduled when Syracuse was in the Big East), I believe that the games from then on will be home/home.

Of all the SEC teams, Georgia is the easiest and the closest for travel for Notre Dame folks on the East Coast. Makes sense for travel and definitely strengthens the schedule.
Notre Dame one step ahead as usual.

RE: ND and Georgia announce home/home series
It's curious (considering that Notre Dame is the most storied college-football program in the country, and Georgia is near the top of the list, and Georgia's HC for 10 years was a former Rockne player/assistant) that these two teams have only played one time, ever.
I was blessed to attend that game on New Year's Day 1981, as Georgia wrapped up its first consensus national championship despite completing only one pass (for 13 yards) in the entire game. Turnovers + Herschel Walker made the difference.

RE: ND and Georgia announce home/home series
I don't get this move for ND. There are very few Catholics in the Southeast (less than 6% in every state except for LA and FL).
They already will play a team from Georgia once every 3 years (Georgia Tech), as well as series in the same general region against Clemson, FSU, and 4 teams in NC.
A series against LSU would make a lot more sense. Or if it had to be against UGA due to scheduling, make it a neutral-site game in New Orleans. LA is the most Catholic state in the South and ND rarely plays there.

Because it's not about religion so much as it's about showing yourself to potential recruits. Louisiana is a good state to recruit in but Georgia has more to offer, plus the campus is close to Atlanta. LSU and A&M may still appear in future schedules, depending on how extensive the new Domer initiative to play southern programs is.

Even if it's just Duke and one of Miami/Va Tech on the road- that's 4 top notch road games- plus then USC at home.
Well, strength of schedule is supposed to be a weighted factor for playoff consideration.
If you went undefeated meanwhile winning at Texas, at Georgia and at Standford, a playoff wouldn't be necessary. National Champ right there!.
Granted, Georgia then could be as bad as Florida was this past year, Texas may be in a slump like they were the last couple years and Stanford is up and down, so who knows how good that schedule will be then, but on paper it looks daunting.

Recruiting, recruiting, recruiting, recruiting.
ND has shifted its emphasis in football recruiting to the area from the Virginia Tidewater, though the Carolinas and into Georgia and (obviously) Florida.
QB Everett Golson is from South Carolina. This year's first round pick, NT Louis Nix, is from Florida. Second round pick Stephon Tuitt grew up in Monroe, Georgia, and so on.
ND wants to play as many games as possible there to showcase itself to recruits in those areas and to combat the negative recruiting of "Its too far away, your parents will never see you play in person.", which they have to battle every day fighting for blue chip recruits from the Southeast.
ND has amped up its recruiting efforts in Louisiana, getting a commitment from OT Jerry Tillery, but recognizes that most kids there will end up at LSU.

true- but best team in the country would be hard pressed to survive that schedule. There's tough and there's stupid tough. They could go 9-3 and be a great team- but out of the playoff because other teams are 11-1 having not played as tough of a schedule.
That's why ND should join the ACC as a full football member. The ACC could have 4 pods and two wildcard games to play for the ACC CG. It would change college football forever....

Why go the easy way and with the crowd?
Why not be different, go your own way and do it the hard way?
That way, if you win it all, that makes it all the sweeter.

If deregulation happens the ACC might move to three divisions instead of 4 POD's and have just one wild card. POD's just aren't that popular with the AD's from what I've heard but that was a while ago.
In a three division setup it's easier to squeeze ND in on a basis that is fair to all the parties. That might tie ND into a division giving them 4 ACC teams they would play every year. You likely would not have pure geographic divisions either. But all that's inside ACC politics that need the NCAA to act before that's every hashed out.

I seriously doubt the 10 teams outside ND's division would agree to that. Would get 2 games with Notre Dame every 20 years- with only 1 home game.

Agreed, that's why ND would have to up it's annual commitment to at least 6 games, perhaps 7. Again, it's about structure and it would not be uncomplicated.

I just don't see ND doing that at all. 7 games would nearly strip away any schedule flexibility- 7+USC,Stanford, and Navy would be 10 games. Would make it where ND couldn't really schedule anyone else.

It's funny how the suburban growth of Atlanta and the suburban growth of Athens now virtually touch somewhere in Gwinnett Co.
For a long time, the drive from GT's campus to UGA's campus took about 90 min. or more, and went through some very desolate/rural areas.

I get your point.... However, using the NFL as a model, the ACC could have four divisions and two wildcard games. It's the only conference that could offer something this original. The other conferences would have to expand. Having four divisions keeps more fans interested in their schools because of better odds of playing in a wildcard game. Moreover, without a network, this stetup would make the ACC more $$$...
