RE: BE teams and their seed in the tournament?

That's tough to say. But keep in mind it really wouldn't be 5/8 anyway, it would more likely be 5/9 or 6/10.
Using the ACC as the gold standard for a 9-team conference:
Over the last ten years they were a 9-team conference, they received a total of 47 bids or an average of 4.7 per year, or 52% of the league teams received a bid on an annual basis.
Meanwhile, the Pac-10, the gold standard for a 10-team conference:
Over the last decade they have received a total of 47 bids for an average of 4.7 per year, or 47% of the league teams received a bid on an annual basis.
Of course, in terms of bb reputation, the Big East is closer to the old 9-team ACC than it is to the 10 team Pac-10. But would it remain so with the addition of UCF and/or ECU for 9 or 10?
Cheers,
Neil

The New Big East has only been at it for 3 years, this currently being its 4th. In the decade I looked at for the ACC there was a 4-year stretch where they only averaged 4 bids a year for a 44% average.
And it is the FIRST 16-team league, so I think in that regard it is breaking in 'new' territory, especially in the selection committee's minds.
But if it gets the expected 9 bids this year it will be up to 48% and if it gets the 10 I think could still happen, it will be up to 50%. I just don't think it will do much better than the 48-50% range over time due to its enormity. However, since a split does not appear to be imminent, it looks like we will all find out.
Cheers,
Neil
