Saban 6 titles = GOAT

Yeah. Hard to match Saban's titles. With all the talent and great coaching (and the refs keeping them in the game-that was a good punt block) they just made the plays at the end and Georgia didn't.

... or, you know, getting a TD even though you were out of bounds.

I think the committee certainly did their job, they picked the best four teams in the country.

I would agree. Despite the bloviating from a certain school near Orlando, I think the committee got it right.

As an Auburn guy I started the game slightly pulling for the Dawgs, but then when they started choking it away in the 4th quarter I must admit it stirred my heart. So then I was just hoping for one of them to have an epic fail and the other to back into it. The missed Bama field goal was my moment. Then with the sack that put Bama back to the 41 I again had that glimmer of joy thinking about Bammer pain. But then......the awesome broken coverage thrilled me again. War Damn Eagle, anyway!

I was hoping Parish (#14) would redeem himself with an INT somewhere, but he just looked lost all night. He did the facemask that put AL in FG range in regulation and then decided not to cover anyone on the TD. Whenever AL needed a play they passed at him and found someone open.

IIRC, i thought the blame for the final TD was on the safety, Sanders #24, it was his job to get over on that one.

They were talking about it on ESPNU. Parish did have the flats but since there was no one there, he should have stayed with the receiver. But yes, the safety was supposed to get over there.

Play stands as called. No way you could overturn. I couldn't tell whether he was in or out. And it was still 1st and 10 at around the 15. Its not like having the ball on your 15 or on the opponent's 15.

JR-you would appreciate this observation. My wife said it didn't seem like a normal crowd. "It was a bunch of rich people who didn't normally go to football games."

Still, it was pretty loud even with an atypical crowd.

You're right. It wasn't like having the ball--it was a TD.

Ultimately, it didn't matter but acting like the refs hurt the Dawgs is just sour grapes.

That's probably the best look you are going to get, and I can't tell if he was in or out either. One observation I had last night was that the refs seemed to make a concerted effort to not drag out decisions on reviewed plays. They didn't ruin the flow of the game, and maybe that's hope for the future.

I thought they did a good job overall.

They missed a lot of nasty, petty crap but overall they didn't end up affecting the outcome.

As for the heal in the picture above, if you look closely where the white of the sideline meets the heal you can clearly see there are black pixels to the right of it. But, again, it ultimately didn't matter.

What strikes me about that picture is how "uneven" that sideline seems to be. It's hardly a straight line. So whether a player is in or out could depend on how sloppy the guy was painting that white band down the sideline.

The consensus on the Texas board is that the refs were giving Alabama a lot of gifts and there is no love for Georgia on the Texas board (see 1984 Cotton Bowl-lot of people still remember that). The reviews on obvious plays gave the Alabama defense a breather twice (TV had already shown it was obvious before they stopped play). No face mask call. The sideline interference. Missed holding calls (although that happens all the time-most Big 12 games are a lot worse on that-so I didn't really think that was a big issue but some did). The blocked punt. Not kicking the player out (#48) when he threw the punch. I can't really believe Saban let him stay after punching one of your own coaches and shoving the trainer down. There was also a lot of stuff that could have been called personal fouls they let the Alabama D get away with. Not egregious, but pretty dirty. My wife who likes Alabama (If Georgia or Texas don't win, she wants Alabama to) was pretty disgusted.

Alabama did what they needed to win when they needed to do it. They are well coached and incredibly talented and deep. They just got some help getting into that position.

I didn't follow the game through any board so I'm not as prepared to go tit for tat on that.

The refs didn't call a slew of holding calls and personal fouls.

My Auburn friends have always claimed Georgia was disgustingly dirty on the field and it really showed in that game--they are.

They were awful under Richt and it looks like that's just part of UGA culture.

I was for Georgia but to me it was clear he was out of bounds. If you can't see green he's out and there was no green.

And being on the 15 is a big difference from a TD.

Yes, Georgia got screwed on the punt block and a couple others, Bama got more calls so i thought it karma that the game went to OT, but the TD call was a big one that went their way.

College coaches just don't know how to teach prevent defense, do they? A 41 yard TD pass on 2nd and 26 - seriously?

Reading that it was Cover 2 which means the safety switches over and has responsibility, although ESPNU people were saying the corner should have stayed on him as well since nobody was in the flat.

But I don't know how you leave somebody one on one in that situation. There were trips on the other side, so there was help over there whoever they threw to. There was nobody else on that side of the field leaving a lot of room for the receiver.

I also don't know how you let the receiver go since he would be open for a time for a big gain until the safety got over. That sort of thing seems to be what Baker Mayfield was exploiting in the 1st half vs. Georgia in the Rose Bowl.

It was also a hell of a play by the freshman QB. If you watch the replay he baited the safety off the coverage with a long look towards the center of the field just before delivering the pass. A veteran move by a player who hasn't played very much.

It's always like that on a football field. Impossible to maintain completely straight lines on an uneven surface. As the grass or fake grass like in the dome gets stepped on, etc, it's going to lay down in an uneven fashion. The only absolutely straight lines you'll ever see on a football field is if the field is an old style astro turf field.
