The amount of money will not be the same for every student-athlete. It depends on many factors that make up the actual cost of attendance. UC’s figure for 2015-16 will be between $4,320 and $7,434 annually, which would be higher than Kentucky, Ohio State, Indiana, Michigan State, Illinois, Michigan, West Virginia, Notre Dame and Purdue, according to figures taken from athleticscholarships.net.

@BearcatJournal: UC's COA will be b/t $4320 and $7434 annually which will put them in the top 10 nationally http://t.co/W1VcCF4Pow

How does it cost that much to live in Cincinnati? Does that include a daily 5-way at Skyline???

It goes by the "Star Rating", the more stars a prospect has, the more he qualifies for. 05-stirthepot

Ohio State will fudge their COA numbers to at least come close to matching Cincinnati's numbers.

This is a pissing contest.

Football only costs/year at $7,434/player: $631,890

Considering the AAC only distributes ~ $2.5 million per team the COA will eat up approximately 25% of that money.

While I think UC may be on the high side of COAs even at $4,000/yr longterm this is not going to be sustainable without another source of income for UC or any other AAC team.

AAC programs find other ways to make money outside of TV contracts. Merchandising, ticket sales, donations, etc. all play a factor.

UC will find a way to make it happen. I am interested to see what revised numbers osu comes up with to counter UC.

You forget the BE exit fees and NCAA credit slush fund that UC, UCONN and USF get to tap each year.

The BE is paying for all this. Preesh Catholic schools.

Not sure where that number comes from. Memphis attributed @ that much (close to 2.7) to conference change alone. They made SOME money in CUSA (probably over $2M based on UAB numbers that have surfaced during their struggle). Memphis COA is $5373 IIRC.

I believe our administration is taking every step necessary to show the Big 12 and ACC we are committed to competing and spending at the highest level. COA, paying Tuberville and Cronin P5 money, the Fifth Third Arena and Nippert Stadium overhauls... all part of the plan. Not really much else UC can do except push for sellouts 100% of the time and try to win more championships.

Yeah, but OSU does not figure in the tattoos and cars they provide along with the $100 handshakes. You add those in, I bet they are ahead.

The whole country does $100 handshakes.

The University of Cincinnati has a billion dollar budget and an endowment around 1.2 billion dollars. While athletic revenue is rather average the entire profile is impressive. People seem to forget that these are billion dollar institutions.

RE: Cincinnati COA among highest in the Country - rath v2.0 - 07-08-2015 09:31 AM

UC finds the COA costs in the couch cushions from the BE payouts. Not a big deal for 5 years.

I haven't forgotten....a completely understand. However, longterm this athletic arms race against schools that take in $30-$40-million/ year on TV alone versus schools that take in less than $3-million/year in TV money doesn't bode well. The money we received from the BE is not going to last forever and I don't see our TV dollars even remotely clawing the gap anytime soon, although we will see further increased cost as P5 schools up the ante in expenses and we try to keep up. We are seeing it already....

RE: Cincinnati COA among highest in the Country - USFRamenu - 07-08-2015 06:13 PM

USF, I think is at 4,298 dollars per year. So we aren't nearly that high. My guess is the added funds are for Rolaids or Pepto Bismol. Got to have that stuff after eating at a Sky-Line restraunt. 03-puke
