1. It's not just a $ issue or there would not be a number of teams behind us with significantly better non-conference SOS's that spend less than us (see Seton Hall).
2. It's a lack of creativity issue and a failure to understand smart scheduling issue.
3. Even if you disagree with that, if you read threads about RPI, and bubble talk SOS is inevitably going to come up because it has to when you discuss if UC will make the tournament, where they will be seeded, what they need to do to move up, to play themselves out..etc. SOS is a criteria, it is part of our resume so if you are tired of hearing about it don't read threads where it has to be talked about.

1. Is there a comparison of what BE schools specifically spend on OOC schedule?

Just ask around other programs, especially minor sports, at UC, both players and coaches that you may know. They will tell you that things have changed dramatically with what is spent on their program. Better travelling conditions and more funds for recruiting is what I have heard.

Mick + MT = poor OOC schedule
Mick + Whit = good OOC schedule (from what we have seen and heard so far)

And the one variable is........

We had a really tough non-conference schedule up until last year. Last year and the current season are the only two years Mick 's team has won at least 10 conference games and at least 20 games overall.

Either way does not really matter why non-conference SOS is an issue at this point (other than me hoping they do something to change it next year). We still have to talk about it, because it effects getting into the tournament and tournament seed if we do get in. Just two years ago I was taking the opposite tact and talking about how our non-conference strength of schedule (and a couple really good wins) could propel us into the tournament if we finished strong (and then we fell apart down the stretch). If you are talking RPI and NCAA tournament field productions the topic cannot be avoided.

Only jumped up 4 spots to #75 after beating a Top 10 RPI team?

RE: UC in RPI Rankings - rath v2.0 - 02-29-2012 09:19 PM

I don't care if the RPI jumped to over 100. Tonight was....

Cincinnati is now 6-3 vs the RPI top 50. That is a very impressive record.

RE: UC in RPI Rankings - Bearcats#1 - 02-29-2012 10:01 PM

we cannot be denied at this point...no way.

RE: UC in RPI Rankings - Bearcat_Bounce - 02-29-2012 10:11 PM

Cincinnati has the same (or better) record against the RPI top 50 than: Missouri, Baylor, Marquette, Florida, Wisconsin, Louisville, Wichita State, UNLV, Notre Dame, and Florida State.

Each of those teams are projected to be no worse than a 5 seed. Talk about some quality.

There are only 11 teams in the country that have at least 6 top 50 wins while also being 3 games over .500 vs the top 50:

Syracuse
Kentucky
Duke
Michigan St.
Kansas
Ohio St.
Georgetown
Missouri
Indiana
Michigan
Cincinnati 04-rock

I couldn't care less what the RPI and Jerry Palm says after this win. The Cats just toyed with one of the hottest teams in the nation!

If true then the 2011-12 Cincinnati Bearcats just proved Jerry Palm's little program is a steaming pile.

he relies so much on the rpi. f*cking ridiculous. let the computer do my job. that's what's it for right. it's like the time i went to see girl talk play at millet hall. the dude does good work, he mixes and mashes old and new, contemporary with indie, basically a clashing of genres... and it works. we went to see him preform and all he did was stand in front of his laptop and press play. oh and he danced. and some girls shot toilet paper out of hot dog guns. my friends still give me sh!t about it.

jerry palm only has to be accurate one day of the year. it's like he's predicting weather patterns that are hovering above mongolia and its influence to us. he's got a hard on for northwestern. but i do too. if cleveland state has a good year, i'd give northwestern the nod. f*ck cleveland state. hate em.

RE: UC in RPI Rankings - bearcatlawjd - 03-01-2012 01:17 AM

I think Louisville doesn't have a win against the top six in the Big East. Somebody needs to stop looking at the RPI and examine these teams. South Florida and Cincinnati should be locks both teams have great conference records and got better as the season went on.

RE: UC in RPI Rankings - Bearcat_Bounce - 03-01-2012 01:50 AM

Marquette's best win is over USF as well. Definitely a wacky year in the Big East

I'm desperately trying to reach through the screen and straighten that picture, Bounce.

Unfortunately that is the dunk he missed.

RE: UC in RPI Rankings - cincybearcatsgo - 03-01-2012 03:01 AM

So are we ranked yet? I feel like we deserve it after beating so many ranked teams. We've beat 4/6 of the teams ranked above us in the BE, as well as a ranked Lville.... how is that not enough to be ranked for reals?

RE: UC in RPI Rankings - Bearcats#1 - 03-01-2012 07:34 AM

I think we are a legit top 25 team....can we look bad sometimes, sure but so can just about everybody.
