I'm well aware that the number of stars doesn't always pan out into better talent. However, the stars are an indcator of the level of talent that is being attracted. So far, we've got the short end of the stick.

Yeah, I about crapped myself when I was flipping through pages on Yahoo/rivals and one had the top 10 MAC classes and WMU wasn't on there. Kind of like a "Uh, what?"

This guy looks like a solid commit for you guys. Pretty impressive offer sheet and measurables hopefully you can hold on to him for a couple more weeks...

I almost think we may need to change our directional status to Western North Miami Michigan Beach University....

Sorry guys, but here's some analysis I did a week ago and it needs to be updated. I think a recruiting class can be judged by how many recruits were offered (not interested) and I use the Rivals commits listing.

Maybe this will act as gauge for us to look at per the Rivals commitment database:

Akron has 15 verbals, 4 had offers from other MAC schools, 2 had offers from other Div I teams.

Ball State has 15 verbals, 4 had offers from MAC, 3 from other Div I.

Bowling had 14 verbals, 2 had offers from B10, 8 from MAC and 1 from other Div 1.

Buffalo-10 verbals, 1 B10, 1 MAC and 2 other schools.

CMU-17 verbals, 9 had offers from other MAC schools.

Kent St.-6 verbals, 3 had offers from other MAC schools.

Miami-12 verbals, 1 B10, 2 MAC.

NIU-5 verbals, 1 B10.

Ohio U-12 verbals, 1 B10, 5 MAC.

Temple-12 verbals, only 1 had another Div I offer.

Toledo-10 verbals, 1 B10, 4 MAC.

WMU-5 verbals, 1 B10, 1 MAC.

There is no double counting. Interesting stat-out of all these verbals EMU only offered 4 of the players

Welcome Valley Forge QB Tyler Hrycak! Nothing but the best of everything at WMU.

RE: Official Recruiting Thread 2011 - broncofan1 - 01-22-2011 10:36 PM

We are close to getting this kid.

S Larry Franklin http://highschoolsports.tcpalm.com/football/boys/players/3489/2010-2011/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s17fqfPRZFk

Official visit today, and it went well. MSU is high on him, but he's cooled on them. He visits Vandy next week. One of his best friends is Travonte Boles.

RE: Official Recruiting Thread 2011 - WMU69 - 01-22-2011 10:39 PM

No link, just the discussion I had with him today.

RE: Official Recruiting Thread 2011 - WMU69 - 01-22-2011 11:03 PM

oh ok. did you talk to any players? anyone close to signing with wmu?

RE: Official Recruiting Thread 2011 - broncofan1 - 01-23-2011 10:49 AM

I didn't talk to many players, but the coaches are pressing hard. Very important week next week.

Both went to Vero Beach.

MSU has cooled on him, but the recruits will never admit that.

Am I the only one that finds it offensive that a guy "Welcoming" WMU recruits on this site while demonstrating his whacking off technique? Can you imagine a recruit showing this site to his parents? I don't want that representing Western Michigan University.

Better than the old Miami QB forcing himself on young women all around the country! Or the old CMU coach letting kids climb unsafe towers in unsafe conditions. We're doing alright here!!

But yeah, I liked his old avatar MUCH better. 02-13-banana

Can we get a Cory Tindal, Larry Franklin, Justin Currie, and Ritchy Desir defensive backfield recruiting class? Now that would be pretty dang good!!

RE: Official Recruiting Thread 2011 - broncofan1 - 01-24-2011 09:01 AM

It would be nice if we could pull in a TE.

Waldo Stadium has been a showcase for TE talant for the last, what, 15 years? These last few years, just felt wrong.

Jake Moreland 1996 - 1999. 143 career receptions - most production from a Bronco TE EVER!

Mobolaji Afariogun 1999 - 2002. I remember playing NCAA on the PS2, and forcing the ball his way all the time. STUD!

Tony Scheffler 2002 - 2005. had 117 receptions and 1,345 receiving yards with 13 touchdowns in his career. One of the most exciting moments for me as a Bronco fan was True Freshman Tim Hiller finding Scheffler for an early score at NIU (a game so big, I took the day off work). One of the saddest moments came soon after, when some NIU douchebag rolled up on Hiller's leg, SHREDDING his knee.

Branden Ledbetter 2005 - 2008. Freaking stud. 2nd team all MAC in 08. Still shocked that he didn't make it in the NFL. Finished his career with the most TDs by a tight end in program history (20) and a record three-consecutive seasons with at least six TDs. Sacrificed his body in a HUGE win over Illinois at Ford Field.

Anthony Middleton 2007 - 2008. Amazing potential. Almost biblically ended our streak of TE amazingness by getting kicked off the team. We now await the return of the Stud TE, as prophesized by Jake Moreland, the patriarch of badass WMU TE.

Of course, there may have been many more amazing TE in the annals of WMU history, but I only went back to when my awareness of my local team, and future alma mater, began.

Excellent breakdown! Cubit's offense just doesn't work well without a TE putting pressure on the LB's and Safeties.
